Little Big Planet

Okay, this is a bit of a random question. But, I thought someone here might be able to answer it, so here goes.
I own Little Big Planet. (I got it free as part of the "we're sorry" deal from Sony.) My son is very into watching me play the game. However, he is very insistent that our character wear the lion costume or the zebra costume. Now that we're approaching the end of LBP, I was thinking of purchasing LBP2. But, I wanted to know if the costumes from LBP can be transferred over to LBP2 because if I get LBP2 and we can't play as a lion or maybe a zebra, I am sure that will cause consternation. I have searched the web, but haven't found a definitive answer.
Does anyone here know?
