X-files defective DVD BS!

So I got to the disc in Season 7 that has Requiem on it, the final episode and the special features, and it doesn't load. Disc is messed up. I call Fox and tell them and they tell me they can't help me because I purchased it off ebay. I told them, it was brand new factory sealed when I bought it. They still said they can't help me. What the hell????? They told me too that even if they could help me, I would have to send the whole set back. HUH??? the whole set?? The rest of the discs are working fine, why would I have to send the whole set back and risk getting a different disc not working. Total BS..

I try to do things the legit way and getting nowhere. I had no choice but to find the disc online and download it. And companies wonder why people sometimes do these types of things. Maybe if they didn't give them such a hassle, they wouldn't have too. I guess technically what I did is not illegal considering I own the disc. It just doesn't work. I can just say it is a legal backup 8)

That sucks Matt! 8(
the thing is with all sorts of software products (DVDs should come under software, since they are digital media) its not the disc you own, its your license to use the contents of the disc- so if you download a backup off the internet, you are 100% entitled to it. There is nothing wrong with it, I do it even when there's a defect on my purchases as well as to avoid having to return it. To me this is more preferable than having a consumer complaint incident as the consumer has solved the problem themselves.

The unfortunate thing about Ebay is that its treated similarly to "Second Hand" goods even if its a first hand product. I don't know why they do it but its the main thing stopping me from using the service. Amazon is a bit better because amazon at least handles it so you can complain to them if a product is defective.. but even that isn't enough as half the time Amazon will just come back and say "bring it up with the seller".

The other thing is that these big businesses hate anyone who isn't an affiliated distributor/retailer, they tend to be elitist in who they deal with- they don't deal with people outside of the official channel so this is why they alienate those that purchase via ebay because their argument would be "Why didn't you buy it retail and pay the 50% markup!".. the answer.. "because you're ripping us off".

I've made this complaint all too many times with major distributors- its like.. why are we being charged so much but when we try to get it cheaper they deny us our basic consumer rights.. it sucks.
Exactly! :x
