Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Christmas calenders are fairly common, have been since before I was a child I think.
Pretty sure they've got it in Sweden as well. Of course, I might be wrong.

So your Christmas calendars are also Christmas stories told in a 24 episode series of 20-25 minutes per episode?
I think we've had Christmas calendars on TV since 1962, so it's always been tradition for our family to watch these every day in December
As for Sweden - I don't know if it could be a Scandinavian tradition with Christmas calendars but it would make sense

yes, we have those. I remember back when i was a kid there was onley one and it aired on the state TV station, it was called "Jul i skomakergata" but it wasent anything like this.. It was a shoomaker\kobbler who counted down the days and showing small cartoons and such, i think it really kicked off with "The Julekalender" a remake of your danish one (dunno if it was called the same in Denmark).. but after that there were more story driven Julekalener's. that was back in 94 i think..

Ah okay - it seems we may have had Christmas calendars for a longer time than in Norway then but it's nevertheless still very cosy to watch every Christmas.
The Julekalender (also the Danish title) was made back in 1991 in Denmark by 3 comedians / entertainers from Jutland who are famous in Denmark for their Jutland dialect, humour and songs. The calendar has now become one of the most well known Danish Christmas calendars of all time along with stories about Nissebanden (Gang of Nisses*) and the Alle Tiders Jul series (The very best Christmas) starring Pyrus who tries to do magic but accidently deletes Christmas from history. He then has to go through time to reinvent Christmas
* A nisse is a kind of elf but in Denmark the tradition of nisses is not at all like for example in USA or elsewhere - read more on nisses here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomte

yeah i looked The julekalender up after i posted the links. I even saw one of thair other shows in 98 i think.. my dad said that it was made by the same guys who did the danish julekalener and i thought it had somthing to do with the other but no
the onley thing i can remeber was 2 kids, a girl and a boy who sang : vi er så søde... nananan vi er så søøøde
and i got really mad cause in norwegian søt\sød means cute and i thought they were so arogant to sing a song about themselfs that they were so cute
The scandinavian Santa is called Nisse and dident really do what a santa persona whould do.
In norwegian folkelore it replaced the Norrøn (viking mythology) gardvorden a "vette" (mythical creature) who guarded the farm. In norway he was portraied as a small man with a long beard and dressed in gray knickers and a red hat. He could be kind and good but if you upset him he could do alot of harm to the people who lived there and the livestock.

Congrats... Best wishes for it to lead to greater things...
