Kickstarter...

Just saw this on Brian Williams new News show Rock Center...

Anyone having a problem getting starting capital for your project??? Loads of people are finding success thanks to the kindness and belief of strangers from around the world...

Could be a thought for a certain project that seems to have been put on the shelf for the time being... I know most of the projects on this site are small time compared to what's needed for Project Fedora, but if the goal set isn't reached everyone gets their money back, so as the saying goes, There's No Harm In Asking...

And who knows, for those of you/us trying to break into the world of writing, you just might find some people who are willing to fund your vision...

I haven't looked into many of them, but this isn't the only site out there like this either, so what might fail on one might make it big on another... I wouldn't recommend trying to put a request on more than one site at a time though, it might be looked at as fraud...

Kickstarter is fine so long as you're not using it for Game Development, as most of the time Game developers have been known to use the system to scam people out of money. Whereas its generally accepted that if you invested into a film or any other project, you probably wouldn't be getting anything in terms of a return- its generally accepted that this is a donation.

If you were developing a game and pulling a "Notch" where you community funded the early stages of development, go through Desura as it protects people a lot more. Too many "Ideas" people on Kickstarter who in the end usually end up scamming people.
Yeah after browsing through it I get the same mindset... Not like Brian Williams to do a story on something like this, after I learned a bit more about it...

It's a Great idea, in thought... But in the end all you're really dealing with is Human Beings...

Now if they could somehow police how the funds are used, maybe give people deadlines or they have to pay the money back or something... As of right now there is no such system in place... So I tend to agree with you, it is more of a new type of scam...
But as the saying goes, "A fool and his gold are soon parted"... If people want to be fools then there is always someone going to be willing to take their gold...

My apologies for posting this without having looked at it a bit more first... Normally I consider Brian Williams to be a pretty creditable source...
