WOW what a letter to post on big finish games forum
Below find a open letter to aaron connors, sounds like a very frustrated fan
Hello
I am a long time Tex fan who like many others have been patiently watiting on the next installment of the Tex series. Its been almost 15 years since we last saw Tex in a game and several years since the last of the radio episodes. I love the fact that there is a small but dedicated group that has supported an ever shrinking fan base. However I think the time has passed for Tex, its simply been too long to just pick up where we left off and it appears either the support or the funding is not there to give us another game. At one time it was stated that the creators never intended for the game to end on a cliffhanger and that if need be they would either use the radio episodes to wrap up the series or just publish the ending. I believe its time to do so, I honestly do not believe we are ever going to see another Tex game and what Tex fans there are left I believe deserve to hear the ending of the story.
Yes it would be nice to see another game, but I believe its time to face the fact that it isnt going to happen. What Tex fans are left I believe deserve to know the rest of the story, even if its not the way we wanted it.

This community is the least I ever want to be negative in, but you can't help it agree with the letter. Nothing would make me happier than for Aaron to log on and reply to me how wrong I am for various reasons, but to argue with the guy be quite baseless because much of Tex's future unfortunately rests on blind faith and optimism despite the very best efforts of Chris, Aaron and the fans. But there's an element of truth to that post. Every attempt has sparked the promise of something long term but little has coagulated from it.
I'm pessimistic but driven to be proven wrong. Please also take note i'm not getting on my soap box and having a fan rant but merely embracing the acceptance phase of my grief.

Well, being new to this site, this is quite a topic for my first post.
The author of the letter has a valid point. I would like a new Tex game, but, it has been an awful long time since the last game. How many new fans are there? Has there been sold enough Tex games on GOG to create a new fan base, or is this just for people like me in their late 30's who remember when the games first came out?
Dont get me wrong. I was happy to buy the games on GOG, and happy to discover that were holding their own after so many years.
What is it exactly we want from a new Tex game? Closure? Are we running the risk of getting really dissapointed if we saw the new game? I have no doubt in my mind, that Aaron Conners and Chris Jones will have a great story ready. But we cannot travel back in time, and have Tex Murphy return were we left him. He will be 15 years older (think about the discussion about Ghostbusters III, allthough Chris Jones wont be old and heavy
).
I just wonder

Chris Jones and Aaron Conners haven't aged a day. If I was a christian man, I'd say God himself is holding on to their youth until the Tex Murphy saga is told in it's entirety.
I'm an atheist, however, and am damn sure they somehow found the fountain of youth.
Seriously though, I hope I age that well.
And yes - closure would be good. An ending to the tale. That'd be good.
Also, I hope it comes before Doug Vandegrift doesn't need makeup to reprise his role...

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I never want to loose faith but I do agree with some parts of the letter, but as I frequent the gog forum I do see a lot of new tex fans & the fan base isn't dying.
If nothing else we do have the overseer book to look forward to & who knows what the next few weeks will hold. After all tex's words were" I will be at big finish games .com sooner than you think".
Would Tex lie to us ...I don't think so....

I know I'm not well liked around here and what I'm about to say will probably be liked even less {if possible}, and for that I've tried to keep my comments small and to whatever point is at hand and I've stayed out of many other topics I would have loved to have debated or just commented on...
But I'm sorry, I have to agree with most of what was said... I haven't been on this message board very long compared to most norms here, I know that... But the time that I have been here I've watched Aaron/Chris/Big Finish Games come in and get our hopes up several times with nothing to show for it afterwards... And I can't imagine how many times they might have done this prior to my joining this wonderful community...
Big Finish Games was a wonderful surprise, the 2 men most beloved by this community opening their own company looked very promising with the teaser of "Secret Project Fedora"... Then that link and icon was taken away and hoped dashed once again... Then several months ago AC makes a post, which was suspect to many at first, and once again we've seen nothing since...
Now we have these Youtube videos... So question is how do we take this??? Once again Hopes are up... Will they be dashed??? Or could they really be working on something and keeping us all in the dark, even though Aaron has told this community personally that he wouldn't do that to us for no other reason than our Devotion to Tex...
Now I have to disagree with the comments made about the characters being too old... If we know anything of film making it's that anything is possible with Makeup... You can take years off a person and you can put years on a person... The biggest problem would be someone passing away for whatever reason...
Not too mention, as Fred said, AC and CJ haven't really seemed to have aged hardly at all... CJ could easily pass for the 40 year old Tex even though he has passed 50 himself...
Most of us will be happy with anything, but will we be truly happy if it isn't a FMV Game??? Even if it is done like LA Noire or other games like it, will be truly happy??? Personally I have to say, I'm not so sure... I've been such a fan of FMV Games because I feel a connection with the characters since you are dealing with REAL people... It just has a way of pulling you in...
The crappy FMV Games that hit the market in the late 90s early 2000s killed the genre and it was a shame too... FMV, in my opinion, are the best games you can play, when the dedication from the development team and characters is put into to... To have such a beloved character/game taken down from FMV, it just wouldn't feel right... Would I play it and support it, absolutely, I mean after all it would be Tex Murphy... There's no way I wouldn't play or support it... But would I be as encouraged to promote it to friends and such as I have been with the originals, at this point I can't give an answer to that...
And Sadly I must confess that I really wouldn't be happy if all we get is a Novel or Radio Theater, even if the Radio Theater is interactive... I must have a Tex that I can Play...
Well that's my 2 cents on the matter, you can get your change at the door and refunds by mail...

That's why it's time to CUT out the publisher and with the certain characters like Beek Nariz you don't even have to worry about make up. I like the no publisher concept because that also means no time constraints. It really baffles me why there isn't just one rich adventure game fan out there who could do the funding.
Maybe a well picthed interactive demo is what it's going to take to get the ball rolling. If I were Big Finish I'd do FMV insurance takes at this point on people like Chris, Aaron, and Doug who you really don't have to "hire". The rest of the game can gradually be made like Chris using Windows recorder to make 10 lines of VR voiceover per day.

You'd be asking Aaron and Chris to take a huge risk by doing this though. Sure the fans could offset some of it, but still Big Finish would be financing most of it. It depends on the direction Aaron and Chris want to take as to the quality of their product and how badly the project needs that budget to get the story across.I like the no publisher concept because that also means no time constraints
Definately though I am in the agreence here that the company should rough it and try for a properly indie release.. but I've been weighing up publisher vs self publish/community funding.
Worse comes to worse, the community lends a hand and builds the game, I would be happy to do this if Aaron or Chris ever asked of it.
I have to admit that I'm frustrated as well and I can definitely understand the guy who wrote that letter. I mean let's face it... Aaron has been teasing us for over 10 years and what has happened with Tex Murphy in the meantime? Nothing! Aaron has teased all kinds of stuff in that time period like that episodic Tex Murphy game that he spoke about maybe 10 years ago.
I don't want to sound harsh on Aaron, but I stopped trusting in anthing he says because his words have repeatedly turned out as completely empty.
I guess when it comes to a return of Tex Murphy it will be imortant if my own FMV project (mentioned that in another thread) will work or not. Our plan is to bring FMV back and we believe that we have the right concept to initiate that return, but of course it is too early to judge if we will leave any impact. If we succeed this could lead to further FMV games and if we don't... well, then I guess that FMV is pretty much done. Considering Kickstarter: Aaron and Chris don't have such a big name like someone like Shafer, Gilbert or Jensen so whatever would come out of such a project would never be enough to fund a full Tex Murphy game so I don't really see that as a realistic option.

And I believe that the venting is getting a little harsh. Aaron has mentioned in the past being heart-broken himself when plans fall apart. To the point where he is hesitant to share information to prevent further disappointment.
As far as previous postings in this thread, my response is, I KNOW that their names pull weight in the industry. Aaron has been a gaming developer and creative director for a long time, and Tex does have name recognition among Adventure gamers. Would a kick starter work? (especially if other members of the industry get behind them with a plug and a nod) I believe absolutely! So on the eve of possibility, I think it can work.
Joel...LOL love that post,
I agree with Jen its not Aarons fault, at times I think he has got excited when he thought it was going to happen & it didn't pan out & you can't blame him for wanting to share the news even if it feel in the toilet.
Samantha has suggested we should do something legally so aaron puts a clause in his will that we all get to read the rest of the story on his death.........LOL
We have keep the dream alive, who knows what will happen on the first week in march.
