hey, i played it twice! ...or even thrice... and forced my girlfriend to play it to the end titles (monster), while i watch (and pervert)
moreover, it is the only game, that i started to play again right after finishing for the first time
though visually a masterpiece, it`s not impressed me that much last time
it`s pretty weak as an actual adventure game - lacking inventory items manipulations and normal involvement in conversations (yeah, i remember that "mood switch" in menu)
and despite "thirteen possible endings" i managed to see only two... twice... or even thrice
maybe i`m not that smart though...

if you want really serious adventure - try "i have no mouth, and i must scream"
serious as the grave

I remember it had a great atmosphere in the environments and story. I also remember the advertising at the time for it really bigged up the fact that every time you replay the game things are different each time. I don't think I got the time though to replay it too much. A lot of games based on movies don't have a lot of thought put into them and generally considered poor or short entertainment. But this Blade Runner game was very different in that respect but it seems quite obscure nowadays, hopefully it comes up on GOG soemday for more to enjoy.

Other adventure games I'd like to see on GOG that I enjoyed that are also not as well known are Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist and Toonstruck.

lucas arts`s "the dig" was a brilliant sci-fi, great serious story (except for the ending)

but the best Adventure game I have ever played is "anachronox"... and it`s not even an adventure!

not that the game was perfect or something, but the story, characters, voiceovers, cinematics etc. nearly was
even the similarities between tex murphy and sly boots, cliffhangers and how there`s no sequel in a decade can be seen
and it`s got humor too!
here`s the trailer

That was a great game, but it was a console style role playing game.

I wish they could have made the sequels to finish the story.

Kickstarter campaign anyone ? =P

OK, here are the best adventure games I ever played:

Gabriel Knight 1-3.
Heavy Rain,
The Pandora Directive,
Tex Murphy Overseer,
Tender Loving Care,
The Last Express,
King's Quest 6,
Quest for Glory 4,
Phantasmagoria 1 and 2,
Blade Runner,
Fahrenheit,
Overclocked,
The Lost Crown,
Still Life,
Dreamfall,
Dark Seed 1 and 2 (horrible gameplay, but outstanding atmosphere)

I'm sure that I forgot a few, but these were the ones that came to my mind at this point.

Signed!
Have to add Little Big Adventure, and Normality.

Two very unique games, with great atmospheres. Normality had this ''every day normal guy'' charm to it, something we've dearly lost in games since the early 2000. It felt, at times, like a game Kafka, or Phil K Dick would have put together.

And a special mention to Fade to Black. I know it's action-adventure, and I know it had horrible flaws, but it still was a very fun adventure.

Little Big Adventure is awesome, I was mesmerised when Ifirst saw someone playing it and had to get a PC to get to play it myself, so it was my first PC game I think. Though I'd class it more Action Adventure. Still hope there'll be a 3rd in the series someday.

Normality is great fun too, very funny. Though the puzzles were a little 'out there' the story was great. I' really liked the premise and characters.

For another FMV adventure game I reccomend Black Dahlia. Great atmosphere and interesting story. Tough puzzles though.

Another obscure adventure game is Koala Lumpur Journey to the Edge which is a funny cartoon animated game. Tough on the puzzles again though (I never did finish it, honestly I guess I'm just crap at puzzles  ).

There's also the Dark Eye which is a mix of point and click adventure and horror, based on Edgar Allan Poe's works. Very unusual to say the least...

All good games that I hope get on GOG someday for others plus some are difficult to run now.

Of course I've played many other adventure games but they're ones everyone has heard of (e.g. Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight etc.).

I liked the ending of the Dig, because you really felt helpless during the game.

I forgot to add, the old school Capcom title FOX HUNT (one of the first games for the original Playstation).
We've come for your Daughter, Chuck!
- Under A Killing Moon

- The Pandora Directive

- Broken Sword

- Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror

- Blade Runner

- Full Throttle

- Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

- Sam and Max

- The Last Express

- Beneath A Steel Sky

- L.A Noire

- Deus Ex (not strictly an adventure game but definitely more than a mere FPS)

- Deus Ex 3
On the threads original subject here are my top 4.

Phantas 2
Black Dahlia
The Pandora Directive
Gabriel Knight 2 the Beast Within

I really haven't thought of ranking beyond that, but I'll give some good mentions.

Sam and Max Hit the Road
Day of the Tentacle
The Longest Journey
The Dame Was Loaded
Ripper
Gabriel Knight 1
Monkey Island 2
Tex Murphy Overseer
Under A Killing Moon

The puzzles in Black Dahlia are more intimidating than they look. Some are pure perseverance. Also you can press F1 on any puzzle to find more information about it and I don't think that's a well known fact.
