Whoa, that's before my time! Makes me feel like a n00b

Apparently I joined that on 11/22/01. I remember watching for a good couple of years before I joined too. That's a looooong time ago.

That brings back warm memories. I remember especially reading through both Tex Murphy books on that board. Though Ask Aaron was before my time, I've read through all the messages there. The one that stuck to my mind was him mentioning a possible story about Tex attending a family reunion, with Leslie Nielsen playing his father.

Gosh, I remember joining Unoffiial Tex Murphy back before even that forum! 1997 it was.

My god, 15 years ago. That's well over half my life! But would've been harldly a life without Tex!

I think I registered to the .cjb.net board before though, or was it another one? I know it was around 98. You kow the black one with a yellow font, there were no sections to it. At some point DV's son (incidently, also know as DV) was posting on it.

There were quite a few different sites of course, but I think about 3 truly active boards.

I'm on there somewhere, but there doesn't seem to be a Member list so not sure when I joined it. Probably towards the end of its life. I'm glad this new forum is here. I much prefer this forum software to the ezboard (now yuku) system.

If there's anyone left over on that old board let them know there's a Kickstarter coming up!

Hey, where are all those archives archived from? They were generated by James in December 2001. I have a single message in Archive #2 where I say something that is strikingly reminiscent of what I said in my Tex-timonial:

These Tex Murphy games have set the tone for my gaming experience. I am in no way exaggerating when I tell you that I evaluate EVERY game I play by whether it comes close to the inventiveness, humor, and intrigue of the Pandora Directive (by the way, no game under these criteria has passed). Where are the next standard-setting installments of the Tex Murphy brigade?

I don't think the entire board was saved. There seemed to be a lot more activity that fell by the wayside, or at least I think so.

Frank, the old old board I remember was TexMurphy.com. It was the place for techie help. I remember that. And Alcatraz.

At some point in the beginning of 02, I think we all had to register at the old UTM board. I had been lurking around before, and remember that I signed in and registered one day before Aaron did. A geek even then...

I was just bringing this up for fun and it didn't occur to me that this could be used to help the Kickstarter campaign. I can't find a member directory on the board, but you can still click on someone's name and send them an individual message. Perhaps since James is the admin there he would have access to all the members in a more organized fashion. So do you all think it is viable to explore this promotion option?

Yeah I am hoping that when the Tex Murphy Kickstarter is live up and running James can send a mass-mail or mass private message (for those who have email notification switched on) to all members of this forum, as some may have missed the announcement, I had gone inactive for a good while so I found out elsewhere by pure chance. A message to my inbox from here would of got my attention so I hope its possible to do so. And hopefully its possible for the old ezboard/yuku forum etc. too for those who have been inactive for even longer.

Wow, that's a blast from the past. According to that site I registered on 07/18/02. So, I think I was a bit later than most of the original members. I still don't remember how I found the site.

Well, I ran such an experiment on a much smaller scale. I combed through and messaged a few folks (from this board) that have been inactive for a long time, but ones I felt comfortable reaching out to, Atomic Veggie, Alex Bark, Thomas Malloy, Harry of Brooklyn, Gypsy Pernell, etc. Some got the message and got in contact, but there are several that are sitting in my outbox, not delivered or read. 8( I tried email options first, and then PM if there was no email. If the inactive visitors either disabled email notifications, or no longer use the email address tied to the board, it's a loss.

But I did reach many....and that's many more than before, so it might be worth a try if James wants to do a mass email.

The funny thing is I was doing some searching, and there were people that I thought were totally gone and inactive, but in reality had been by, probably logged in, but as a lurker only.
Lots of lurkers..... So I didn't send any of them messages.
