English subtitles for important Project Fedora Kickstarter videos. They can serve as a reference base for others to translate into their native language and spread the word globally, since past Tex Murphy games were translated into various languages.

Pitch Video: Italian | Russian | Português Brasileiro | Dutch | French
Recruitment Video: Italian

English Subtitles
.SUB file.

Example:

SDH Version (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
.SUB file SDH Version
Includes sound effects e.g. [gunshots and screaming], music cues e.g. ["Psycho" horror theme] as well as names to identify speakers (e.g. Tex: I gotta get outta here...).
Note: It is possible to have 2 subtitle tracks on Youtube and let people choose between non-SDH or SDH version. The last one you add is considered the default I think

Examples:

On-Screen Text Annotations
You can also use the following file as reference to add Youtube Annotations that overlap on-screen (e.g. lettering on an envelope) text with your translation.
Annotations .TXT file

Example (Before & After using Youtube Annotations):

Well done everyone! Now, we need to get it OUT there to everyone. I'll post this on the Kickstarter forum, unless you want to Sai?

And now you've got me curious about that address on that envelope. I have to go cap that.

How is this for the Kickstarter forum post? Look ok?
I haven't posted it yet.
English subtitles for the Project Fedora Kickstarter video. These can serve as a reference for others to translate into their native language (some people have already done this) and help spread the word globally. Special thanks to Sai (transcribing/editing) & my voice just (timing) on the Unofficial Tex Murphy forums. I also pitched in some transcribing and proofing.

Sure. But before going all out I wonder if it'd be better after a payments guide on how other countries can donate easier is up. I'm wondering if e.g. German viewers see a translated pitch video but then Germany don't have many credit cards so they don't come back to the Kickstarter, but if stuff about donating without credit card is linked on Kickstarter etc.

Oh good point, I had thought it was just gobbledegook so didn't think about it. I've added it to the Annotations text file now. It says:
Mr. Tex Murphy
Private Investigator/Dance Instructor
Ritz Hotel 3rd Floor
Chandler Avenue, Old San Francisco
(Ruri_Ayanami from the old Tex Murphy ezboard).
"I don't believe in intuition, don't know why... just a feeling." - Tex Murphy
Well, I think we should at least put it on the Kickstarter forum now for current donators to start translating into their native languages and get them up on YouTube.

Final version I'm going to post: Ok with you Sai?

Looks good redcat. Though could you change the Annotations TXT file link to this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?3r9lr7g6ln9ga7a

I had to delete the old one and re-upload it to add the envelope address. Sadly can't update files with Mediafire and use the same link.

Thanks!

Link updated! I think this will be useful to many people.

I hope the actual games get subtitle options. It really helps to have the text there when you're trying to look for clues.
You guys are doing such a good job on the subtitles & I know the guys have stated it will be translated for the german community but have they stated any other language.

tex murphy is back in town
Once I figure out how this subtitle thingy works I will do the French ones.

What you do is download the .SUB file. Open it in a text editor (e.g. Notepad on PC). Then you'll see lots of lines like this:
00:00:18.719,00:00:21.435
Don't take rides from strangers.
The numbers represent at what time the line starts and ends (separated by a , comma) e.g.
00:00:18.719 = hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds
You don't need to edit those, they are for Youtube to sync things up, but they can be useful to know what they mean if you want to skip to that bit whilst translating.

You just need to edit the English into another language.

Then when done do Save As, select the filetype as All Files and save it as a .sub file (and not a .txt file).

After that you just upload the project fedora kickstarter video (can use youtube video grabbers to download it), go to Edit > Captions and then upload the Captions file.

Someone else is doing a French version, you could collaborate with them. :)

Here's english subs file with timing for the recruiting video, if someone needs it

I made it by ear but it should be 100% correct. The .ass format is managed by Aegisub. If someone has problems with this format let me know, and I'll convert it to .ssa or something else
Thanks gufino!

hgorni completed the Português Brasileiro version. Added it to first post too.
