Show Support, Renounce Free/Buy Extra Copies

I don't know about anyone else but I plan to let Chris and Co. at Big Finish Games know that I plan to support them by buying my copy of the game outright rather than accepting a free one. Who else will show your support by doing the same or buying extra copies?

Well, I'm buying a copy at my local games store in addition to the copy I'm receiving in the mail.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
To be honest, I only plan on buying a copy as a gift for someone else since i'll be getting both the digital and physical versions. Without wanting to come across as unappreciative or anything like that, but in making a pledge and having that acknowledged in the form of a reward, I feel i've done everything that needs to be done to aid the success of the project. If they do a sequel and there's a Kickstarter for it, count me in. But as it is i've already paid the most I have for a video game.
If the backers don't get Steam codes, I'll probably re-buy on Steam at some point, but it depends on price. If they're planning to release a retail version I sort of doubt they'll be selling the game for less than $25, which I'm not paying after I already pledged more than I've ever paid for a game.
Honestly, retail is dead for PC games. I don't know why they'd bother. PC boxes go on a tiny shelf in the back of the store that no one looks at and the employees don't even sort. It's kind of pointless.
I guess some people still buy boxed games on Amazon, maybe that's the angle.

I don't know how I feel about this. If they're selling it even at $15, that's $10 profit per copy. That means if they sell at least 80,000 copies they should have the funds to make another one on their own. 80,000 copies is not a lot these days, I think even the Blackwell games did that much. Several Telltale series have had seasons that sold over a million.Joel wrote:If they do a sequel and there's a Kickstarter for it, count me in.
Someone who has the money to make a game, but would simply prefer to have me bankroll them can f*** right off. If Roberta Williams put up a Kickstarter, I'd tell her to hit the bricks. And I love Roberta, but she's rich and can finance a game if she wants.
And if Tex 6 can't manage to sell even 80,000 copies, well... maybe it is time to let it go. Minus the cliffhanger this time. I don't think that'll happen though. If the game comes out as good as we all believe it will, people will buy it.
We need to see the main games market move away from FPSs a bit too - I think one of the problems so many years ago was that there were so many games (Sierra mostly?) where if you did something innocently wrong like you opened the wrong door you died, not from using logic (e.g. don't touch the sparking cables).
Lucasarts came out with loads of games where they were loud and clear - you would not die from picking up the wrong object, and that worked. But then things moved to First Person Shooters and we need to see a move away from that - will we?
I hope so, but I think that computers will be less main stream too - most games seem to be for consoles or tablets, and even Apple have said they think the future is iPads - they've sold more iPads in three years than they've ever sold computers.
But personally, while I don't often play games, the memorable ones are computer based.

I'll buy another copy to support, but I'm looking forward to the Exclusive Boxed Collectors Edition...
While I'm sure the game will be stellar, I worry about the Piracy that's sure to swamp it... I know people will buy it, but for every buyer there will probably be 3 or more who grab it off torrent or other means... This will hurt their profits for a possible sequel... And then people, even those who steal the game, will come crying for a new game, but they might throw their hands up and say there just wasn't enough interest and profit in it to do any more...
I hope they don't get ripped to bad by the pirates out there... But if they do decide on a Sequel and use Kickstarter I will certainly be involved again....

First of, that is insane, to pay for a game to be made, promised a free copy and then say "Nah, I'll pay for it again thanks. However, I likely will buy anyone I know a copy as Christmas/Birthday Presents...
It's BS and I'm sick of hearing this argument.
Tex will make money as long as it (and I have no reason to doubt this) is a good game. Unless there really are only 7000 people (IE the backers) who would ever like Tex... then we're screwed, but I doubt that one.
Sigh... People who habitually pirate games generally WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE GAME if they couldn't have pirated it. It isn't some easily countable number of 'lost sales' that 'screwed the developers'. I really wish people would stop acting like it is so... It just makes game makers feel like they need DRM that in turn does nothing but harm the PAYING customer (IE you and me) meanwhile the pirates crack the game a few hours later than if they'd had a DRM-free copy. It's a strawman argument that game companies use to claim that their game wasn't bad or poorly marketed, just that the profits were destroyed by 'the pirate menace'.Bafitis wrote:...I worry about the Piracy that's sure to swamp it... I have realized that I was worried that somehow they wouldn't be able to sell enough copies. I am now quite pissed at myself for my lack of faith in the good people at Big Finish Games. You all have my apologies for being so short-sighted. I will just buy an extra, or a couple extra copies when the game is released.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but it's our way of showing our support which has not wavered over the many years since being given a cliffhanger and the elongated promise of giving us an ending... Their devotion to us has been just as strong... I think most developers would have given up once their copyrights had been lost...LockeCole wrote:First of, that is insane, to pay for a game to be made, promised a free copy and then say "Nah, I'll pay for it again thanks.
As for the Pirate issue, that is an argument that could go back and forth forever... I seriously doubt there will ever be solid scientific data behind whether or not Piracy hurts sales... I believe it does, you believe it does not... Neither of us have support in our favor so it doesn't really matter... Not everyone who pirates games does it habitually though either... Some do it because they are in current hardships and can't afford the game while others do it just to save the buck from buying it, but some of those would have bought it had hacking not been available for them... That's my thoughts on the matter...
Statistics that are out there are a little widespread... According to some there is a 4 to 1 ratio {dollar wise} and as much as a 20 to 1 ratio {game wise}... While I understand these numbers are more of a guesstimate than hard data, I still feel it impacts the industry... It also makes you wish for the time before the Internet, just to keep gaming more legal...
I certainly hope Tex sells and helps bring back the Adventure genre... I just hope a flood of FMV games doesn't destroy things again like in the 90s...
