Silent Hill Revelations 3d

http://ca.movies.yahoo.com/movie/silent ... /trailers/

Well, this movie looks much more intense than the first. I think it looks much better.

I have been a fan of the Silent Hill games since their inception, so I am really looking forward to this.

I know the first movie was a love it or hate it film, but I really liked it for the disturbing imagery if anything.

This movie is based on the third game which ties in as a direct sequel to the first.
The second game was an unrelated story, although it is considered to be the best in the series.

Anyway, anybody else looking forward to this?
Matt
I'm a Silent Hill fan. Played 1 - 4 + Homecoming. Need to play Origins and the new one someday. And maybe Shattered Memories someday, though I wish it wasn't Wii only.

Anyway I agree the first movie was hit and miss, but for me it was for the opposite reason. I liked the first part of the film much more than towards the end. I felt they went over the top. I know Silent Hill can be gorey, but in the movie at times it felt almost gratuitous at the end. But then my favourite part of Silent Hill is exploring the abandoned buildings, finding clues and learning why exactly the person I am playing is trapped in Silent Hill. Since each incarnation of Silent Hill is basically based around their inner demons or concerns. I think thats one of the reasons Silent Hill 2 is quite popular since it took that concept and went into even more detail with a few big twists along the way, spoiler as well as adding in some other travellers you meet along the way who have their own versions of Silent Hill they are seeing different to yours. So in the first film where she is exploring around, and we also see her husband wandering around but seeing a different version, I felt that captured the feeling of the games quite well. spoiler: It seemed like people were more creeped out by that first section of film because when she crashed into the trashcan in the alley the audience in the cinema jumped. But towards the end it felt like too much of a gorefest to me without as much thought, spoiler: chucking in Pyramid Head just to tear people up and other bloody showy effects etc.

The 3rd Silent Hill was good, I liked the main character, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with that concept. But I have my reservations.

Yeah I got Origins on PS2, just never got around to playing it yet. :) Didn't know Shattered memories was ported as well. May pick that up one day, thanks.

I, um, "have" it for the Dolphin emulator and keep meaning to try Shattered Memories. SH1 was probably my most played PS1 game of all.

I don't know if it was.

FF7 sold millions of copies.

They said "my" most played ;)
But yeah FF7 was my first PS1 game :D And I suppose SH1 was my first horror PS1 game, if not Dino Crisis or something.

Silent Hill is also a series of games??
Are you trolling right now, Chandler? Or are you really that unaware of console games? Because Silent Hill is probably the most respected horror series of games ever made. It puts even Resident Evil to shame.

And yes, Resident Evil is also a series of games

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Nope, I'm completely unaware. I don't play console games. The only console I've owned since my ColecoVision is my Wii, and I only play Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

FPS games hold zero interest for me. Wait, no, they hold even less than that.

I'm not always a gamer but, when I am, I prefer PC games :) Actually, I'm not a gamer at all in the sense people mean it today. Of course, I love TM, and I also love Portal and Portal2. That's about it. My life is simply too busy for much game time.

You can get some of the SIlent Hill games on PC:
Silent Hill 2 (2002/2003)
Silent Hill 3 (2003)
Silent Hill 4 (2004)
Silent Hill Homecoming (2008) - available on Steam etc.

Silent Hill 2 & Silent Hill 3 were re-released in the "HD Collection" (2012) but only for PS3 and Xbox so far.

Silent Hill 3 does continue the story a bit from Silent Hill 1 but it is explained during the game so you don't really have to of played the first 1. All the others are completely standalone.

Silent Hill isn't FPS. It's played in 3rd person perspective and though you can pickup guns, bullets are often not very plentiful, so a good startegy is to conserve ammo until a boss and just use the trusty steel pipe or other weapon to defend yourself with direct combat. But you're not beating things up all the time. For me the biggest draw of the Silent Hill series is going around and exploring the abandoned buildings, searching for clues and coming across different experiences or interactions that let you learn more and more about who you are and why you are there.

As for FPS on console games in general. I am a big RPG fan so I collected together a lot of PS1 and PS2 games. And there were a lot of great platforming games on Sega Master System and Mega Drive (Genesis in America). DS has a lot of fun games, I love the unique Phoenix Wright detective / court game series especially. I'm not a fan of FPS either and I do admit its slimmer pickings on current gens for me at least. My PS3 collection is very small especially compared to PS2...

Omigosh yes. I can't wait for them to get another game out and have to content myself with replaying these whenever.

Incidentally have you tried 999? As another very text and story heavy game, I'd recommend it to any fellow Ace Attorney fans.

Nope never heard of it. Doesn't look like it got a UK release either. Though at least DS is region free (got a few Japanese games) so maybe someday.

by DS, do you mean a game production company, or the Nintendo DS? BTW, I've heard of the DS, but I've never seen or played one.

Nintendo DS yeah, a small portable console with a touchscreen interface and stylus pen, as well as standard buttons. I've got a DS Lite I think it is which is an older one. There are a few different releases, including the new 3D screen ones but can't afford it personally. But if you go into some game, toy or electronic stores they sometimes have a demo area set up so you can try out the latest DS or other console.
