Computer ill-literate seeks help
Okay! All you computer geniuses take note! TOG needs a helping hand.
1. How do I retrieve info from Clipboard?
2. I have UAKM and PD inPDF but I cannot edit those copies. Is there a way to transfer them to a file that can be edited?
Thanks!
P.S. Remember! I ain't too bright in understanding computer lingo.

Hi Jim,
Retieving data from the clipboard:
You retrieve the data by selecting an appropriate 'receiver' such as a document editor for text, a folder for files, etc., and use Ctrl-v from the keyboard or select 'paste' from the right-click menu.
It is possible to edit PDF files, but not with the free Acrobat Reader that everyone has. You need a 'full' version of Acrobat which allows you to create and edit PDF files. I don't remember how much it costs,(bought mine years ago) but it is fairly expensive, around $50-100.
Part of the appeal of PDF documents is that they are not easily altered, so that if you create something, it stays that way. It is also possible to set the security on a PDF document so that it cannot be edited. Anyway, the simple answer is that it is not simple.
You can 'fake' a change by doing a screen capture of the page and then putting the image in a paint or photo editor and making changes, but the quality will be poor and won't be a PDF anymore.
The best thing is to edit the original text files and generate a new PDF. I can do that for you if have the edited text files.

If it's just a word here and there that needs changing, I can edit the PDF file directly, but big changes that require reformatting or different word-wrap would be a mess.
What I usually do is edit the text in any text editor and when it's time to print, I send it to Acrobat Distiller instead of the printer, and it creates a new PDF.

I want to thank everyone for helping, especially Heinz Harald's suggestion which seem to work the easiest for me.
Why did I want PD and UAKM in a word document? There are several mistakes (although not critical to the reading) that I felt needed editing. So, with that thought in mind, I will slowly but surely make corrections using the actual novels as my guide. I'll let you know when I'm finished.

Hey Jim,
What I don't understand is, if you just needed the text in an editable format, that's redily available. In fact, I think I got the UAKM text from you and DemonLawyer provided the PD text (or maybe the other way around). So what's all this business with PDF files? Don't you have the text files anymore?
I formatted both UAKM and PD into plain ASCII text files that can be read/edited in virtually any text editor or word processor.
If, eventually, you want to end up with a PDF version, you will still need an Adobe Acrobat writer (the reader won't do it.) But if all you were interested in was getting the text, and don't care about PDF, sure, you can use Heinz's suggestion, or I can send them to you already as plain text.

Good question, Doc. I had part of UAKM and none of PD in word format.
UAKM was a joint project between Deamonlawyer and myself; PD was all DL. He used a microphone and read the book into it; the computer deciphered it the best it could. However, some of the wording and phrases turned out a bit strange. If you've read the PDF on PD you may have noticed a few mistakes. (NOTE: This was NOT the fault of DL!) I want my own personal copy of each book with the exact wording. That's my only reason for doing this.
