Rolling Stone Hobbit collector's Guide

Picked up my copy at the local newsstand near my work.

Really gearing up for this film.

And presale tickets outsold the new Twilight and Skyfall.

Take that Twihards!!

MGM is kinda competing with themselves with bond though, even though they are just the distributors for the Hobbit.

Do you guys have Empire magazine out there? 3D covers of the Hobbit. Amazing covers

I still can't believe they are breaking this into 3 films... I can't watch it cut up, so I'm gonna have to wait until they release the 3rd one before I see it at all... Really Sucks...

Not to be morbid, but you might die before they're all released. Better to see as many as you can as they're released. :D

Maybe so and if that happens then so be it, but I can't watch something cut up like that, especially when I've read the book and know there is more to come...

I'm curious as to how and when the breaks in the films might come, considering the book is one fluid book, unlike the LOTR, at least that had original breaking points that they could do in the movies and they did quite well I think...

I will watch them. And on Dec, 8, the extended versions of The Lord of the Rings will be playing at my local theater back-to-back-to-back.

I could guess the three breaks I think ...

First movie all about Bilbo teaming up, and the whole goblin mountain fiasco. Break after escaping from Golem.

Then you got the spiders in the forest, eagles and such, yadda yadda, barrel riding to lonely mountain and break.

Then start three right before going to Smog's mountain.

I however, never did read the entire book. Read some of it, but most of my knowledge is from the old Hobbit cartoon movie, which I still have today. To me, it's like a remake of that.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
I know what you mean. John Huston's Gandalf is probably my favorite voice for the character.

I also have and still enjoy the Rankin/Bass Return of the King. In fact there were some things I'd hoped Peter Jackson would do the same way as that version.

What I don't get is how The Hobbit gets broken up into 3 movies while the LOTR books, each of which contained far more material than The Hobbit, only got a single movie. I hope the Hobbit movies are great, but I wonder how the LOTR movies would have turned out if they had each been been divided up into 3 movies. Imagine, 9 LOTR movies! Wow!
The Hobbit movies will feature a Smaug's treasure trove worth of expanded-upon throwaway references from the book as well as Silmarillion material and a couple characters created for the film.

What if they had done that with the LOTR movies?
It would have made up for the removal of the Razing of the Shire(one of my favorite parts.)

I expect that we'll be seeing the Necromancer/War of the Wizards in the Hobbit... This will undoubtedly be half of one of the films... The Necromancer material is most likely what caused this to turn into 3 films... And with it being so very briefly touched upon in the book, it leaves Jackson and crew a lot of room to work their magic and imagination...

Yes the breaks at the Goblin Mountain and then again after Mirkwood Forest seem most likely... I do hope the Battle of Five Armies is worthy of the battles in the LOTR movies, which I do expect it to be... Can't wait to see the Dragon either...

No I don't think the LOTR should have been 9 movies, but I do think they could have added a bit to them and made them into 6 movies instead, 2 per book...

But no, I will still have to wait it out and watch all 3 of them relatively close together... So I guess I won't be watching until the end of 2014, unfortunately... I just don't want to have to wait a year just to see what's going to happen next and then have to wait another year after that to see how it all ends... I hate that kind of stuff... I waited the LOTR out, I'll wait the Hobbit out...

It may not help but the delay between movies 2 and 3 is only supposed to be 6 months.

Oh okay, so it won't be the End of 2014...

lol

It will be a nice Summer Treat... Maybe I can talk my Drive-In into running a Hobbit Weekend, where they have all 3 parts of the Hobbits as their weekend showing...
The Drive-In always runs 3 movies on Friday, 3 Movies on Saturday, and then usually a cut down to 2 movies on Sunday... It would be pretty awesome to see The Hobbit {all 3 parts} on the Biggest Movie Screen in North America... 52 Feet Tall by 120 Feet Wide...

Still, sadly this is over 20 months a way...
