Companies like Wadget Eye and Phoenix have always been around. The adventure genre never went away, it just moved into the realm of these smaller independent titles.
The story, here, is the explosion of populist support for the genre thanks to Kickstarter, and I find it strange that this isn't even mentioned despite the fact that they have a quote from Jane Jensen in the article. This is going to be a big year for adventure games. Telltale's success with The Walking Dead is absolutely notable and part of this story, but I'm not sure stuff like Resonance is.
