Ok, I really didn't plan for this to blow up in my face

so for the sake of the board, I have deleted the article. I will keep my quote in the 2nd post (just in case curious onlookers want a slight clue as to what this was all about). The last thing I wanted is to spark some left wing/right wing hate spewing.

So, my apologies to all whom I might have offended.

Jen
Sorry to state the obvious, Jen, but welcome to 'neo-conservative' corporate America. Where the hyporitical, self-appointed moral majority bash the bible and use it as an excuse for just about ANYTHING they want to further their own ends. With an 'elected' govenment with it's fingers in so many oily pies and an idiot puppet of a president, who can't even manage to put a pretzel into his mouth without looking like he just went 5 rounds with Tyson. I sympathise, and hope things get better, and soon.

But don't let that get you down, Jen. Over here we're not much better off. With a 'Socialist' PM who buys a £3 million house, has a lawyer for a wife (usually in major cases challenging government policy), who it turns out is a relative of Abraham Lincoln's assassin and buys apartments off con men, an idiot pig of a deputy PM who can't string a coherent verb together, and the chronic wastage of money that goes into the economic hemorrhage that is our own lamented public health service, and other, more dubious funds not even accounted for or explained. Latest news - cash for peerages. Wealthy businessmen make 'donations' to the Labour party, then throw a hissy fit after their promised honours are blocked.

We have a 'Neo-Conservative' government in the US, and a 'New Labour' govenment over here. Different ideologies, same long-term goals (google UK ID cards, hello police state). Conservatism and Socialism are terms that are clearly irrelevant in these modern times, as it's more of a matter of who is a member of the Elite, and who isn't.

Let's not start this again. Did you stop to think that anyone on this board might take umbrage at some of that venom? If we could roll out the debates and arguments it would be different, but this website is about common ground. We're friends, and we should therefore avoid this kind of pointless dissention.

I believe we remember AC's comments last time this came up...

spoiler quote
Between South Dakota's new abortion law, the continuing discrimation against gay people, and ideas like this(banning the sale of sex toys), it really makes me wonder where this country is headed. Certainly harmful things like child pornography and sexual abuse should be taken into account in our laws, but consenting behavior between two adults?? (or one adult and a piece of latex)????
Any discussion?

I certainly did not intend to spew venom, and I didn't think that I was. Regardless of personal or political orientation, I think our civil liberties, whether it be simple, (personal preferences and freedoms) or complex, (supreme court rulings vs. states rights) are common ground.
Besides, it was a perfect opportunity to insert a bawdy, lighthearted comment! 8)
Here's a comic strip from Doonesbury. Similar principal, also to to left.

Well if u look hard enough u will find wierd rules/laws everywhere Jen.

Even here in holland.

Ill give a example:

Medical insurence here has a OWN RISK part meaning u always have to pay for a part of all the costs yourself.

lets say u need a surgery u have to pay about 300 euro yourself the rest is covered and every other medicine and treatement is covered also.

Now u have to pay the own risk part before u ever need it. this results into if u dont get sick u get the 300 euros back at the end of the year. and u pay for next years own risk.

Now that all sound nice dont get sick and u get the own risk back but for everyone that needs medicene daily u never get anything back.

Like me i need eyedrops daily so i used up my own risk in about half a year. my wife has asma so she also can kiss here own risk goodbuy.

so everyone now pays more money for medical are but only is u are healthy u cat a refund but everyone that has a need for drugs pays more then eveyone else.

not that i mind paying more then other peaple but the system for own risk was not in stead of but ontop of the original bills for medical incurence. so i now have to pay more than in the past. and i only have disabilety alowence from the goverment so im alraidy on a tight budget.

anyways didnt want to make a LONG post but just wanted to show u that there are peaple making wierd rules everywhere.
Live is too short to waste it make sure its with the one u love !

Jen and Jerry are right. Let's keep this an apolitical board. All politics does is divide, and on here we're united. Much less stress all round.

By the way, apologies if I went off on one there... :o Looking back over my post it seems I really got worked up last night. I guess I'm just too politicallly motivated.

Anyway, show's over. Now where did I put my soapbox?

Well my only view on politics is this - I quite liked the budget yesterday (UK). Tax on whisky and other spirits haven't risen, longest 'no rise' for 50 years apparently.

I'll drink to that!
What is this all about? I seem to have missed Jen's quip. Hey Jen! Send me an email with that info.

Amen to keeping this board politically and religiously free - for the most part.

No offence taken, Jennifer. Don't worry.
Truly yours,
Alexander.
