What is this Music?

Hey all. I was checking out the midi's from UAKM using overviewer, and I came across some midi's I don't remember hearing in the game. I was wondering if maybe someone knows. I'll include a link to them below. Number 49 sounds like the sound test midi, but it's a lot more elaborate.

Thanks!

P.S. The game wouldn't be the same without its music; its amazing!

All good stuff here. I love the jazzier side of the TM series. Sounds great through my SC-88VL :D

Some sound to me like MIDI tracks written for the game, but then selectively discarded for whatever reason (better to ask Jon Clark or whoever it was who wrote the MIDIs). They were probably packed into MUSIC.AP first, then indexed so they could be 'looked up' in game for use (like a playlist). Some tracks were chosen for certain scenes, some not. In other words, they're in the game, except it never requests those particular tracks, so we never hear them when we play.

I think no. 14 is from somewhere in Ching's place (the Nickerbocker), and maybe the Colonel's office, and maybe the Moon Child Observatory.

No. 38 sounds like it could've been used somehow in the suite in the Golden Gate Hotel  - although I don't remember it being used.

No. 49 seems to be an extended version of the MIDI test from Pandora, like you said.

Yeah... 14 is from the Moon Child.

the rest were created for use in the game but were cut from the main soundtrack before it's relese.

But here is something interesting... if you sit on Chandler Avenue for something like 2 hours, doing nothing, the music will eventually begin cycling through these 'lost' midi files. I noticed this when I left the game on once and came back to hear this music I had never heard before. Very interesting.

Number 49 was also inteded to be in the game.... but after it was cut, they deicded to bring it over into the Pandora Directive as the sound test file. I guess they thought it did not suite PD, but was too good to completely axe.

cool! hey, I'm having trouble playing HMI files off the pandora discs/directory. The HMI player opens, but there's no sound. I got mine from texmurphy.com. Do I need a newer version, or is there maybe another problem? (Sorry, maybe this should've been in the Tex Support section...oh well)

oh, also, I knew about #14. I realised it after I uploaded the package, so I changed my version, but I forgot to update...whoops...

Winamp plays HMI files. However, I suspect Overviewer may be extracting the files incorrectly from MUSIC.AP, as the files appear to be somehow corrupt (they can crash the HMI player, and some don't even play in Winamp at all).

The only 'perfect' extracted HMI sequence I got last time I checked was the music from the Garden House.

That's really odd... becuase to this date I have never had any problems with extracting the HMI files and playing them in the HMI player.

Either way, if you are after the music from the games, a while back I extracted all the music from UAKM and Overseer and remastered them and converted them to MP3... you can find them HERE.

Thanks Cub...I've already been there (of course) and downloaded absolutely everything (have a nice tex collection going on)...had no idea you were the maker though. great job! I really like that fans take the initiative to actually do stuff themselves. (this web site, spade's tex movie...) Doing some 3d tex related stuff on my own...who knows, maybe the next tex game will be made by the fans! oh well, I'm down to miami for a 1 week cruise vacation! ultimate relaxation! be back in a week (unless they've got wireless onboard...?)

p.s. is there any way to get the music off pandora? and is it possible to get the movie files off uakm & pandora (like overseer?)

I also noticed that if you stay in Tex's office for a while after the music finishes, what sounds like a variation of the UKM Chelsee theme plays.
