HA HA!
400 members is pretty big... although not too big. Just enough to make us a big community, but not too many to make us completely ot of touch with one another.
Funnily enough though, on another form for which I am a member, there are a whopping 129,637 memebers... yet somehow we are all fairly in touch with one another. But no where near as much as we are here... that's for sure.

Even if you don't post, the benefit to being registered/logged in is that it will keep track of what threads you personally have or haven't read, and which have new posts etc. If you're not logged/don't have an account the board ahs nowhere to keep a record of that.
Also keep in mind that alot of spam robots register (but don't post) just to have their place in the Memberlist aswell their own Profile page. On the Memberlist they get to have a website link, which the bot can have linked to their spam/advertising website. On the Profile page they can put whatever they want in the additional fields as well as have an advertising link again. Here's an example:
>click<
There's not much that can be done to stop bots totally though, so at least this type of bot is comparitively harmless to the ones that actually do post.
It does however mean though that the total amount of members is less meaningfull sadly (although its hard to really tell exactly how many are bots and how many are just members who like to have the features of an account excluding posting features, so who knows, there could be more humans than bots). I have a small forum thats totally plagued by those kinds of bots. I did manually clear out the memberlist a couple of tiems, but another 50 bots flooded back soon enough and then carried on again.

I'm about to make your example link obsolete, Sai.Sai wrote:Also keep in mind that alot of spam robots register (but don't post) just to have their place in the Memberlist aswell their own Profile page. I have it set so that every new registrant must be personally approved by me before their account is active. Usually, the spambots are easy to spot, but sometimes a few slip through. I spend a lot of time trying to keep this board spam free, and you're right, it ain't easy.
I hope you know that we appreciate it. It's good to see your name in those bright orange letters at the bottom of the screen more often.
Telethon, no. Impromptu meeting of the admiration society, yes.
Thanks James! We (certainly I) appreciate all you've done to keep a ragtag group of Texen's together.

Thats very admirable of you James. I cant imagine how much of a pain that must be to do. I only did it a few times and felt Id gone blind by the end. But then I guess doing it periodically wouldnt be as harrowing. Certainly takes great effort though and I commend you for that. Keep up the great work.
