Tuco, you sound as closed minded as the reviewer in those clips... To expect those movies to have been the same as their respective originals is ludicrous... They were Not Remakes... Could they have been better, sure... Anything could be better, there is nothing perfect when it comes to entertainment...
As for the Star Wars films, I was satisfied with them... As for Indy, hell I'm surprised they even bothered to do the 4th movie, let alone arguing if it was good or not... Just how much of an action star do you expect a 70 year old man to be??? Does Indy 4 hold up to the previous 3, of course not... Is it a Bad Film, in No Way Whatsoever...

I thought the videos were funny. I agreed with some of his points such as the story lacked a strong central character and that the action was too busy in some of the scenes.
You can't compare old and new movies. The old movies will always win because they've been ingrained into our hearts and minds longer. It's like listening to a song performed by one artist and then hearing another artist perform a remake of it. The 2nd version will always suck in comparison to you.

The prequels were the biggest disappointment in Hollywood history. I stand by my statement.
Gigli, Waterworld whatever else did not come with the kind of expectations that the prequels had. Who the hell expected Gigli to be anything special? Yeah, Martin Brest directed it and Midnight Run was fantastic but there was not a legion of fans breathlessly waiting for Gigli. The same for Waterworld. It's only with great expectations that you get great disappointments.
I'm not some reactionary fanboy (I didn't mind the 1997 re-releases) but I have to call it like it is. It was lazy filmmaking by a director who should have known better.
I didn't say they were the worst movies ever made; in fact they were perfectly mediocre, which is exactly what made them so terrible. George Lucas isn't an athlete and moviemaking isn't a sport where luck and split second timing sometimes trump talent. The dude had all the time/money/access to the best and brightest in Hollywood and all he produced was mediocrity.

I found absolutely nothing wrong with any of them...
It lacked a central main character??? Well tell me, who was suppose to be the main character, considering the Prequels were telling the story of Several different characters origins from the original movies... The prequel movies were exactly what people had been asking for, but then were unhappy with the outcome they were given...
People wanted to know why Yoda and Obi Won were in hiding??? They wanted to know what the Jedi order was all about??? So part of the story explained the Jedi... Meanwhile other people were asking how the Empire came into power, so the story branched off to show the origins of the Empire and how it started to form... How did this happen??? How did that happen???
You can't have a Main Character when you're trying to answer so many questions and show it from those separate point of views... It's just not possible...
You do not need a specific main character to have a good movie...

I would most definitely argue that.Bafitis wrote:You do not need a specific main character to have a good movie...
Name a good movie (or any other form of narrative) and tell me it doesn't have a main character. A central protagonist is key to a decent story.
Now television is a little different as there are shows with ensemble casts, but even there, there is a character who the audience is meant to connect with over all the others. Usually that person is our pathway into that world.
The original trilogy had Luke Skywalker. He was the central path through all those 3 movies and one reason why they worked as a story.
In my opinion, the prequels might have worked better if Obi-wan was the main character and we followed his teachings of Anakin, and then his downfall as Anakin turned. This kind of happened but Obi-wan was never made a clear protagonist. No one was... and yes, that is one reason why the prequels don't hold up as good movies (especially Phantom Menace).

As I said, people wanted the answers to too many different questions in order to have just One Main character...
In LOTR, we are meant to follow Frodo's path and connect with him as the main character, but personally I connected more with Aragorn as the main character... Which is something I think the movies did, they took the focus off of Frodo and placed it on Aragorn... While it follows the book really well, I felt more connected with Frodo in the book than I did with the movies...
But when you travel backwards you need to show all points leading up to where you traveled from... And there is no single point of reference from which to follow to get to that point when it comes to Star Wars...
True, you could have followed Anakin's path, but then you wouldn't have been able to explain the Jedi Order as well or show how the Republic began to crumble from the Emperor's influence in the senate... You would have had to sacrifice explanation of these other things in order to stay with the "Main" Character's point of view...
Things don't just start out as bad, as they did in Star Wars, The New Hope... So people cried for an explanation of how things got that way...
So if you need to envision a main character, your main character would be the Republic as a whole on how it fell to the might of the Empire... Or vice-versa, the Empire and how it crushed the Republic under its boot, but not just one Person...
Star Trek doesn't really have a Main character for the most part... True in the movies you might symbolize with Kirk, but that is only because Shatner is a Spot Light hog... But in most of the books it follows the entire crew, not just any one member... And they did an even better job spreading out the focus in The Next Generation movies...
While 98% of movies will have a Main Character, I don't believe {depending on the type of movie} that it is Necessary to have a Central Main Character... You can have a movie with a Main Character Group and still have a good movie...
As I've said, I liked all of the Star Wars Movies... Were some of the characters "Flat" with no personality, yes, but the movies themselves I liked...

I liked them all =)
Well... Phantom Menace was the worst of them.... I really really enjoyed Revenge of the Sith.
Plan to watch the rest of the video tomorrow... only watched part one so far.
The son comment was hilarious though. Or the fact that his son killed himself and is gone but he still has to live with The Phantom Menace =P

Ok... so I finally finished watching this whole thing.
It was hilarious.
The humor does start to diminish as you go on, but also, in the later parts you also have a precious moment sprinkled here and there....
ex.
Gungas, Goongas.. hehehe
or ... Oh... this would have been a good time.... (referencing the jedi super fast running power)
and ... chicken, leads to egg, leads to omelet, leads to fecal emergency =P
I can see some of his points, but I also see bafs points too.
In my opinion, the movies were entertaining but some of the characters were crappy....
Qui Gon should not have been in the movie at all. What the reviewer said did make sense with merging the two characters.
Anyway, amusing review and I can see how this could win youtube video of the year.

Jar Jar Binks must die. Between him and Crazy Frog the earth is doomed.
I know there's not many Bill Hicks fans about, but the man said one thing that nobody can argue with:
"Since when did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children?"

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
He definitely left too early. Mind you, the late 90s and 2000s would have made his head explode.Fred Buer wrote:I know there's not many Bill Hicks fans about, but the man said one thing that nobody can argue with:

Just imagine all the material he would have had for this Bailout Sh;t the US Government pulled... I know Carlin would have been all over it, another who left too early...Atomicvegetable wrote:He definitely left too early.
