dude, you should get Service Pack 2 for Max 9... then your loading splash would look like this:
It fixes a whole lot of issues and is free to DL and install.

Actually that Smurf isn't as cute as he looks. Sure he's 3 apples high but he'll tear your friggin' arm off beat you with it! Vicious little critters unlike the cartoons portray.
As for Max 9, yeah I'll update it later. I might just go to Max 2008 when it's release. I don't really do anything heavily taxing in it yet that it needs to be updated. I am just starting with advanced modelling and texturing so it's good for the time being. Sure I have been using Max since Max 2 but I have always used it mostly for titling and other bells and whistles. However when I get my Tex related fan movie going I will probably need everything I can get so thanks for the heads up. My next step is to get my dedicated hard drive so I can dual boot from Windows to Mac OSX to use DVD Studio Pro again, and occasionally Final Cut Pro, mebbe Motion.
If anyone on the board wants to check out anything I have done I have an alternate alias and go under the name TheDers on Youtube. You can check out some of my pointless yet entertaining vid at:

I will be posting interesting there soon enough. Actually I will post this part under a different topic all together. Here is the link:

Actually it's funny, I kinda feel like the kid that tries to get the cool toys that everyone wants but there's always that rich kid that gets the cooler and newer version of the toys before everyone else. Cub you ARE that kid and I am so jealous that I am gonna sulk under the big tree at the end of the playground. I SAY GOOD DAY SIR!

That's why I said I would take it with the cage... I've had several of them growing up, I know how vicious they can be... Worse than a Wolverine...
It's been a few years since my last Smurf, I think I'm ready again... Hopefully no one has access to archived news articles in my area... I swear it wasn't my fault... I can handle the Smurf, I promise...

That would be Toadman from Mega Man 4, with a red paintjob.

Hey Cub what do you use to capture HD video out of curiousity? We found a little program called HDV Split, works surprisingly well for us. No nonsense basic program that is great for just dumping entire tapes to the hard drive of your choice . . . not that you would dump an entire tape if you're doing movie stuff, but if you need an entire tape dumped it's really good. Especially for that time lapse stuff.

Woah I didn't see it but Fred but you're absolutely right, good eye, it is a modified Toadman. Damn, maybe I should alter it more so there isn't copyright infringement.

I always just use Premiere.
Version CS3 now supports a HUGE range of formats across HD (Uncompressed HD, HDV, HD-CAM, MXF and H.264). In fact, I think its compatability might have almost outgrown FinalCut's. Actually, ever since moving up to CS3 I have no longer seen the need to revert to using FCP in some situation (which I used to have to do when Premiere Pro 2 could not support the P2 MXF format)... not to mention FCP being TERRIBLE at handing image sequences (which are ofoten used for title sequences and 3D animated or composited shots).
Speaking of capturing, most of the HD footage I shoot is using the P2 system, which means it is a simple file tranfer, rather than a dub or capture. You just record onto the flash cards, then transfer onto your HDD via either the 'P2 Store' or a PCMCIA slot in a notebook or desktop. So easy. And now that CS3 can support the MXF formats (from the Panasonic P2 cards) it's even better.
You should look into P2... it's probably not as super high end as you can get, but I totally rocks for the balance of quality versus convenience.

Actually it's funny that you brought that up. If anything we are doing everything in our power to AVOID using the P2 cards. I originally was all for them but the one thing that made me snap out of it was the cost of them. If you haven't noticed I am all about the do it for cheaper than the average man . . . well as long as I am paying for stuff out of my own pocket that is. My buddy and tech guy is in the process of building a work around but gets the same effect as a P2 card.
As it stands now we are filming a lot of seminars and events that require many hours of footage and broadcasting them live. At the same time we are recording them to produce DVD's from them so the P2 cards just aren't a viable solution right now. It's still cheaper to get a $7 Mini DV tape to catch all the hours. I'm actually dumping 15 hours of footage as I write this as a matter of fact. Basically we are looking at something simple like an old laptop and HDV Split to capture to a portable hard drive without going through Premiere's bloated approximation software. (damned dropped frames) Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Premiere but we need something that makes us go through as little hassle as possible. We are about to get CS3 and all the bells and whistles so I will have some hands on time with that soon enough.
I know the film program here swears by the P2 cards and I have actually plead my case to deaf ears (because I am not a prof and/or graduated in "film" so I must be stupid.) I even tried to plead with them to buy cheaper PC's because they wanted to dual boot from Mac to Windows while in the mac environment. Why have one Mac when you can have 2 for the same price that does the same thing? But as always people have their preferences so they go with it. I am broke so I can't afford preference. I need the biggest bang for my buck so it pays to research and shop around. Wow I am really going on and on. Yeah P2, probably somewhere down the road, just not now. I am eyeballing the Panasonic 200 as our next camera, the Sony we have now is small, annoying and loads in the bottom. The picture is great though. I will let you know how our work around turns out.

It's odd people have so much trouble with Premiere. Maybe I am just lucky but I never literally never had a dropped fram using Premiere's capture tool.
As for the P2 cards, they are expensive, hence why I only hire them out. I find its much better to include hire of gear like that in the quote, rather than buy it youself.
You may not realise it but I am not in much of a better financial situtation myself. I can afford this gear only now becuase I spent the last 2 years working my ass of as a Graphic Designer which I loathe doing a lot of the time... but its money in the bank I guess. I will continue this job until I can reach a point where I can do video full time on my own... but its just not a steady enough income at the moment to ditch my day job for.
Back on the topic though, are you talking about the HVX-200? If so, yes it's a great camera... coupled with the Mini35 adaptor, it produces some stunning shots. Have worked on 2 shoots with that camera with stunning results.
