The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
Omega Man, that is so funny you mention that... I talked to my father a little while ago, he just watched Legend and he mentioned Omega Man as well...

I can see that about Javier. I respect your opinion about it being overrated, but I didn't feel that way...I only feel like it's overrated if you go in expecting a good movie, and then it's not. I thought it was great. However, I agree with you about the ending...I won't spoil it for the others who may have not seen it, but I would have loved to have seen a different ending...but the movie is still great nonetheless.
"Some men aren’t looking for anything logical. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
By the way: I haven´t seen I am legend or the omega man, but there actually was another film based on the same book, before these 2 films. It was called , Last man on earth, starring the immortal Vincent Price- Great film, fantastic atmosphere ( the black and white really enforced the psychological effect in a great way). In that film the zombies were more vampire like though, but definately a good film.
Last film: Once again Ed Wood by Tim Burton. Fantastic film, it´s wonderful Martin Landau ( who by the way would be perfect for a Tex game) got the academy award for his role as Bela Lugosi. His acting is incredible, and being a big Lugosi fan I´m impressed even more than I would have been anyway. He managed to bring Lugosi back to the screen with all his tragedy and bizarreness, and his accent sounds fantastic. Beside that the whole cast is wonderful, and Burton really managed to make a true hommage to Wood. There´s a lot of humor in the film and in the characters, but Burton never made it the way "Look at these ridiculous idiots" you can alway feel Burtons respect at the same time - Wonderful movie!
Talking of Burton - Has anyone seen Sweeney Todd? I´m thinking about seeing it in the cinema, but I´m unsure because of the musical aspect.

You're exactly right! Some movies go the whole way through and they are great and then ending sucks....but, I've learned to appreciate the work as a whole and not allow the ending to ruin the brilliance the first 2 hours....besides...maybe they will have an alternate directors ending on the dvd...never know.DrPaul wrote:You're right. No Country... really is a great flick. The problem with bad endings is that the ending is the last thing you see so that's the impression you leave with.

Speaking of Alternate Endings, has any else seen the Alternate Ending for I Am Legend???
I just watched Life Stinks on Stars... Any one a Mel Brooks fan??? I love his stuff, I need to see more of his work, I know there is plenty I haven't seen... Life Stinks is a good movie... It's about a Big Time Business man making a bet with another Big Time Business man, he bets the other that he can survive 30 days living on the streets of a really, really run down neighborhood... They both own half of the property of the area and whoever wins the bet gets the other's half...
I won't say anymore, in case someone is interested in watching it for the first time, I don't want to spoil it... I'll just say things don't go as planned...

Hey, if you like that theme (and if you like the Cohen Brothers,) there was a movie way back in 1942 called Sullivan's Travels. It was directed by Preston Sturges and featured Veronica Lake and Joel McCrea. It's about a Big Time Business man making a bet with another Big Time Business man, he bets the other that he can survive 30 days living on the streets of a really, really run down neighborhood...
Now, what does this have to do with the Cohen Brothers, who weren't even born then? Well, I'll tell you. Sullivan's Travels is about a big-time movie director who wants to make a movie about the poor and down-trodden. The name of the movie he wants to make is called "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" But he decides that he can't do this movie justice unless he has lived on the streets himself, so that he will know of what he says.
So off he goes with no money and hobo clothes (from the costume department) to learn about life on the streets. Naturally, one thing leads to another and he has a really big adventure. In the end, "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" never gets filmed. It isn't until 60 years later, that the Cohen Brothers present their vision of what "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" might have been.
If you watch "Sullivan's Travels" you will see many elements of Sullivan's adventures that eventually found there way into the Cohen Brothers version of Oh Brother Where Art Thou which, by the way, is my favorite Cohen Brothers movie. Or at least right up there with Fargo.
So if you are an O Brother fan (or, if you like to see rich guys making it on the streets,) you MUST see Sullivan's Travels.
A movie I would like to see redone with today's technology is Forbidden Planet...
I just watched Young Guns, both 1 and 2, on AMC... They were good movies... It'd be nice if we could reach back into the past without disturbing anything, but be able to see how things actually happened...
Getting ready to watch Vacancy again, I've seen it twice before... I like it, even though it didn't get that great of reviews...
Same with I Know Who Killed Me... I happened to like that movie even though it was given Razzies instead of Awards... I think it was a very good story, it was different...

Forbidden Planet was a GREAT movie; ahead of its time, starring a very young Leslie Nielson.
O Brother Where Art Thou was terrific. Had to watch it twice, though. Was it a comedy? Was it serious? The second time through my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
BTW, the soundtrack to said movie was #1 on the charts for a long time. Excellent music, if you like the deep south/blue grass genre.

"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
Yes Forbidden Planet was a great Movie, my father turned me onto it when I was younger... That and Star Trek {Original}, I later watched the Generation and Voyager on my own, never got into Deep Space 9 though, along with Star Wars of course...
I just watched an older movie from the early 80's late last night while sifting through some papers... TANK, with James Garner, still good after all these years...
Can't let this Thread go any farther without mentioning Lord Of The Rings... I sooo love the book... I realize you have to lose some things when going from book to movie... I still think the Movie did the Book Justice... Very good movie... The Hobbit is in production and is hoped to be finished and released in 2010... According to resources there is going to be a Hobbit 2 that follows it, but nothing else is said about that...
Fans of the book series raised hell with the movie company when they released LOTR without The Hobbit... I agree with them too... LOTR rocked, I don't think anyone could have played Aragorn better than Viggo... Shame Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf though, would have loved to have seen him play the role... He turned it down and then turned around and took the role in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen...
Said something in an interview about not wanting to deal with all that animation and special effects nonsense... But then realized that, that is the way the movie business is going and if he wants to stay a part of it he is going to have to adapt... He regretted not taking the Role in LOTR in the interview...
Sorry, not sure if anyone wanted to know all that... Sometimes if I start rambling I can't stop...

Well, we're drifting slightly off topic with reminisces about older movies.
I know. I'm as guilty as anyone else. But just to nudge it slightly back on topic, I just saw Drillbit Taylor with Owen Wilson.
If I said "Typical Owen Wilson movie," I would not mean it in a negative way. Even though he usually, but not always, plays the same basic character, I LOVE that character. So if you like Owen, you'll probably like Drillbit.
What's his brother Luke been up to lately - after Vacancy? I like both of those Wilson guys.

Actually there are 3 of the them, isn't there???

Vacancy was a decently released movie... He was in 3:10 To Yuma... He did the Voice of Lt. James Stanton in Terra... He was in Blonde Ambition, Henry Poole Is Here... And he is working on something called Tenure...
As for Owen, I have liked him A LOT less since he pulled his little Suicide act... I have Clients fighting Eviction Notices and Drug Charges, ETC. and he is trying to commit Suicide... I lose respect for actors who pull that and then jump back on top of the hill like nothing happen...
As for Andrew, he hasn't really done anything note worthy, but he has been in films such as Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, he played an unnamed Cop... He played in The Big Bounce, Fever Pitch, Church Ball, Idiocracy, and he just finished working on Calvin Marshall... Calvin Marshall is about a college student is determined to become a Major League Baseball star, but finds his true calling instead...
He hasn't had any lead roles, so he's nothing like his brothers yet, but he's trying...
Anyway, I'm rambling again...
