Fan project...any takers??

Thanks for the support Jen :D You guys will be hearing from me more often. I just want to tell everyone that the industry in Australia and also for the rest of the world has turned overnight to $#it. I'm going to publicly say that just 2 days ago I lost my job as Lead QA for a Indie Developer contracted to THQ, yep we got caught in that 25% bullshit that was posted on Gamespot about a month back- just got my slips and I'll be going to the unemployment office in a few days- its been to hot for me to walk there.

Anyway the engine, graphics and programming stuff is pretty cheap, it helps its all covered by GPL License so if I can figure out how to screw with the code a bit should be able to remake UAKM exactly from scratch. UAKM is probably the most easiest to work with, we've got our good friend Cub here who touched up some of the music which can be found on his server so the music is already out of the way, the FMVs of course are the parts that are missing however we can replicate them in High Poly Pre-Render if we ever had to- this is the same approach Chris and Aaron took with Three Cards.

I'd rather remake UAKM first as opposed to just making an entirely new game- UAKM's game design is simple and easy- all we need is to use it to pitch the idea- once we've impressed the publisher not just with the quality but also with the cost effectiveness of the whole thing then should be all good for getting the rights.

Due to the current climate of the industry though we've got to be careful, Chris and Aaron right now would be scared out of their minds- developer studios are being shut down daily, publishers are being taken over monthly and the entire climate of the industry has been completely changed forever. One can only imagine the survival chances of indie developers in this time- however after all this crap has passed it'll be a golden age for the Indies just as it was after the 1982 crash Atari caused- Only this is much much worse. I do question the overall co-operativeness of the publishers in this time, having worked with two of the biggest (EA and THQ) I know they will not help us.

Ok so yeah I'm serious about developing a UAKM remake. Please don't donate any money to any project- because it doesn't take money to get the job done- it takes skill ;).

Whoa! Sorry about getting laid off. What's going on in the industry? I'm very curious.

Go For It... We will support you... I agree with you though, I didn't think it would take much money to do remakes either... Skills is definitely what is needed and from what I've seen, you certainly have the skills and there are several other very skilled members who I'm sure would chip in their skills if/when needed... I wish you the best of luck... Keep us updated...

Right now I'm learning the engine I intend to use- I'm really struggling with the concepts. We'll see what happens though, I may actually change to a different engine should this one be too overly complicated but I'll give it a chance.

What I really need is a new computer- this mac is starting to die on me :D. The 3D program I'm using keeps crashing.
I know what you mean... My laptop is like that... It's a PC though, not a Mac... It needs replacing, but I'm trying to wait on replacing anything big like the computers until my Computer Room has been finished...

We understand it won't be a quick process, just keep us in the loop... :D
