The game you're looking forward to the most!

@ Bafitis

Maybe you should finally play the Gabriel Knight games, then you´ll at least have an idea why Gray Matter is worth looking forward to so much.

They completely shook the visual side of the game upside down in the meantime and concerning the visuals it will be a lot more impressing than it was in the first place. Should be time for them soon to reveal some of the things they´ve got in their bags (probably at the Games Convention/GamesCom in August) . What i expect from a Jensen game is outstanding storytelling and a very strong sense for an intesive, eery yet melancholic atmosphere. From the little we know about the new version of the game it seems that the visuals will be a good support for that atmosphere. Really like this image:

Concerning Max Payne
I was in exactly the same situation like Lestat. I knew that it was officially announced, but not coming from the actual developers who are doing Alan Wake now.
But hearing these first infos is very weird, i mean, if i have a look at this picture of Max, i don´t really see anything Max Payne related here:
Image

He looked different in part 2 than he did in the first game (older and scarred from life) but there was no doubt at all that this was Max, now this new guy seems totally random and just some typical GTA i don´t know computergame character. Sure, it doesen´t say anything about the gameplay but to me the Max Payne games were not just about the gameplay, but also about these really cool Film noir story elements, the way the story was told, the characters and i hope they just don´t focus on blowing things up entirely in the sequel. On the other hand, who knows what they´re planning and it´s probably to early to criticize but the first impressions leave me with a rather weird feeling.
I'm already looking forward to Gray Matter... Though in time I do plan on playing the GK series... Just got too much new on my plate to worry about going back to old right now... lol

I bought a PS3 yesterday. My first game system, ever. However, I don't have any games yet. I mainly got it for the Blue-Ray.

I was thinking about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune or maybe Dark Rain. Which one do you guys think will require less shooting? I'm a terrible shot and want something I won't keep getting killed in.
Go for God Of War III... You can also get Playstation 2 games, they will work in the PS 3...

Dark Rain, are you talking about Heavy Rain or is Dark Rain a game as well???

What kind of game are you interested in??? There are plenty of other types of games besides shooter games...

Well, I played Ghostbusters and I am thoroughly impressed.

The story is quirky and funny and brings me right back to the old movies.

I loved those movies as a kid.

Gameply isn't its forte, but it is not horrible by any means.
When it starts to get monotonous, they throw in a great Boss fight to spice things up.

It is a great game though and a must play for any Ghostbusters fan.

If you are not a fan though, I would stay away.

You're right. My mistake. It's Heavy Rain. Looks like some kind of dark detective story.

I'm thinking about that game because, from the trailer, it looks like there might not be a lot of shooting. It's not that I have anything against shooters. It's just that I'm so terrible at it. I had to quit playing Mean Streets because I could never get past the first set of street thugs.

So I'm looking for a game that is mostly exploring and a minimum of action/shooting/fighting.

I was originally thinking about Ghostbusters, but it looks like there's way too much shooter-type action in it for me to handle. Keep in mind that I have never used a game controller before. Maybe I'll eventually get good at that. I'd like to start out with something with more emphasis on exploring than on action (like a TM game.)

By the way, with practice, I've gotten new a high score of 105,000 on Donkey Kong. Not long ago, the best I could do was 17,000.

That's a helluva improvement...

There are a slew of games where you do more detective and puzzle work than you do shooting... Most of the Silent Hill games are more about Puzzles and figuring things out than shooting, though you do have scenes where you have to shoot monsters and such...

A lot of the console games give you the option to aim for you... Like on PS2, I haven't really gotten into PS3 yet, but most games involving guns you can hold like the R-1 button and it will aim for you, then you just press whatever your fire button it... So it isn't quite like those older games like Mean Streets...

Usually the only time the Aiming isn't done for you, will be in the Hard or higher difficulty settings... But for Easy or Regular, the option to have the game assist you should be there...

That sounds very encouraging. I recently downloaded a demo for uncharted. The demo doesn't seem to auto-aim. Maybe the full game will. I should rent it first and see.

In the demo, there are three waves of shootouts, one immediately after the other, and I've gotten through all those (after many attempts.) Then there's another, bigger gunfight soon after those. I haven't gotten past that one yet, 'cause I run out of ammo. (not a good shot, yet.) On the plus side, I've 'killed' about 15 pirates so far in the demo. Not too bad for a rookie.

Also, thatnks for the heads up on Silent Hill. If it is mostly exploring and puzzle-solving, that might be just the ticket. I've heard that it's pretty scary, too.

This is all so new to me. A person could get seriously pre-occupied with these games!
Yeah Silent Hill broke some barriers in the story telling department... And the newest one doesn't look like a let down either...

www.gamefly.com is a very resourceful place if you just want to test games out before thinking about buying them... It's just like Netflix, except it's for games... Their plans are a bit more expensive than Netflix, but depending on how fast you go through games it can be worth it... I mean after all games aren't like movies most of the time, games you're going to spend hours on, a movie you're going to spend maybe 2 to 4 depending on how often you pause it or have to rewind it a little... After you are done with the movie you stick it back in the mail... The game you're going to have for at least a week unless you don't like it...
It all boils down to whether you feel you can afford it or not...

Personally I think they should merge Netflix and Gamefly and offer both within the same account...

Hey Doc, I'm not sure what your stance on the game is, but if you haven't played Grand Theft Auto 4, I'd at least give it a rental. The subject matter is very adult oriented, but it's not just random profanity for the sake of random profanity either. The storyline is very well balanced, the graphics are absolutely amazing, and learning how to aim and shoot isn't that hard as the game gives you an option for an auto aim (Just hold down a button and hit another button to shoot, and you'll hit what you're aiming at.). There is nothing more grisly satisfying than to come home from work, load up GTA4, jack a car, Drive around until someone hits you, rip them out of their car, beat them with a ball bat, attract cop attention, steal another car, run over about 10 pedestrians while getting away from the cops and pulling into the helicopter landing pad at the airport, getting into a military copter, and pwning all the cops until you accidentally lose control of the copter at high altitude, and try to jump out of it before it explodes, hit the side of the empire state building at about 60 miles per hour, then rag doll all the way down the building till you hit the street, your spree at an end ... ahhhhh .... the satisfaction of a job well done.

I have to say, while I was gone from the internet, I spent ALOT of time on GTA4. It's just absolutely mind blowingly amazing and is in my opinion the best game out for the PS3. (The graphics on the PS3, and Xbox look about the same, as I've had the chance to play both, but there is a difference. The PS3 slightly edges it out. I couldn't even tell you really what that difference is... I just ... notice that things seem a bit more fluid and lively on the PS3 version.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.

Hmm...sounds like my day BEFORE I get off work!

Naw, I can definitely agree with what you said. I used to do a similar thing in the freeride mode in Mafia. It can be really satisfying in getting the aggressions out.

Wow! I'm afraid if I had GTA, I'd have to hide it from my wife and only play it when she's not home. She'd kill me! Well, no. She wouldn't kill me. But she'd give me that 'look'. You guys know what I'm talking about.

I gotta admit though, it does look like a pretty spectacular game. The graphics and action seem so real. It's amazing! I can see how it might be very good for tending to all that latent aggression we harbor. When I was younger, I used to play drums for that.

Man. I'm just getting overwhelmed with choices. This, being my first game system, is like discovering a whole other world.
Uncharted does not auto-aim.

In fact, I'd say either go for Ghostbusters (Because it's not difficult at all and requires little actual aiming skills as such and it's really fun!) or Grand Theft Auto. I mean, seriously, are we still doing the whole Games Are Bad thing? GTA is not a crime simulator. It's a game series that depicts a story from the other side of the law. Godfather, Scarface, Goodfellas... Pulp Fiction, Casino, King of New York... These're all good entertainment as far as films go, but oh no, if YOU'RE the one doing the interaction and making choices, suddenly that means your heart will start pumping a black viscous substance not unlike pure evil and you will run your car into a Walmart and open fire with a Super Soaker filled with onion-juice or something. I dunno. Get GTA, it tells a good story through great gameplay, the same way Godfather tells a great story through great directing!

The above is not stated fact, it is merely my opinion. Disclaimer End.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I know a game you might enjoy... It's a Kid's game, but I loved all 3 of them and I'm waiting for the 4th...

Sly Cooper... Originally I bought them for my son, but I loved playing them as well... There are a couple of shooting scenes in the games, but nothing you can't handle I'm sure... Sly Cooper is a colorful, funny, and just plain fun game...

You play a Thief named Sly Cooper who is a Raccoon and he has 2 buddies, a Hippo and a Turtle... But you're a Thief with Honorable and Good Intentions... Kind of like a Robin Hood, if you will... There are puzzles to figure out, missions to go on... Just a very Fun game...

In the first one you only get to play as Sly, with I think one or two exceptions... In the 2nd one you get to play as Sly, Murray {the Hippo}, and Bentley {the Turtle}... In the 3rd you get to play as several different characters...

All 3 have pretty good stories as well, for being kid's games... I mean they are very well written... I recommend at least renting one of them to check it out...

All 3 o them are for the Playstation 2... There is suppose to be a 4th coming out for the Playstation 3, but I don't think that has been confirmed yet...

Anyone else play Sly Cooper???

Hey Fred,

I hope your rant about violence in games was not motivated because you think I'm one of those "game violence is bad" people. Let me assure you that I'm not.

My problem with GTA is that my wife would feel uncomfortable with it and I must respect her feelings. And it isn't like she should respect my feelings, too because, even though I don't mind shooting the bad guys in a game, I don't really enjoy *being* the bad guy, myself. I can't even finish the "bad Tex" path in Pandora. What can I say? I'm a Boy Scout. So it's not worth it for me to upset my wife over something that I don't really enjoy myself.

That being said, I don't think playing violent computer games will turn you into a bad person.

I'm not against shooters either. I'm just not a good shot. Maybe if I played them more, I'd get better at it.

From what you said about Ghostbusters, I should probably give that a try, too. My wife might even enjoy playing it with me. That would be really cool.
