In regards to Jen's comments:
1. We don't know if the fuel was there to power the mothership or the little ship the guy flies up and attaches to the mothership.
2. If I was collecting fuel to fly my way home, and I'd make sure I collected more than I needed. Rescue attempts blow if you realize you only packed enough to get you one star system away.
3. The film makes...conveniences out of it's technology. It is always mysterious and alien, and we never know how it works (with the exception of the guns, in which we're told they require some part of the alien dna to power. Would the guns be usable if you wore gloves lathered in alien blood?)
4. I can fix you becomes three years when the alien dude reveals his true form, I mean intentions.
5. As for the prawns, there is a large unexplained scenario in regards to who they are and where they came from. It seems as though any sort of chain in command or authority did not exist within the ship, and based on the limited footage, the prawns appeared to be in a cargo hold. Were they slaves? Were they originally prawns to begin with, or were they another species that had been assimilated into the race? The viewpoint of the aliens is very limited.
6. Neverending action scenes are awesome. Boom! Here comes the boom! Ready or not! Here comes the boys from the south!
