This is a great board.
From what I know phonenumbers have been circulated.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
On the bright side I think members like Matt and Dcat are doing their part to produce new future members for the board.Joel wrote:I'd hate to think that the members just eventually fade 1 by 1 without any warning or anything like that.

Don't worry Joel, if I die I will do my best to post about it.Joel wrote:Even if another Tex game never comes to fruition, the fact that this community stands triumphant is reward enoughConsider my membership one for life.
My only worry is this (and I apologise for being morbid): how are we to know when certain members no longer post on the board have...well, you know, passed on? Do we just infer from the long period in which they have not posted? I'd hate to think that the members just eventually fade 1 by 1 without any warning or anything like that.

We really should get that Contact sheet made up... 3 copies were suppose to go to Cub, Jen, and James...
That way if someone disappeared for a long period someone would be able to contact that person or their family to find out if anything serious had happened...

This is indeed a wonderful community, and we are very lucky to have each other.
Historically the Tex Murphy community began way back in the days of TexMurphy.com, with the message board on there. It was a public threaded message board and that's where I met folks like Jen and Jim for the first time (in 1997), who had already been part of the community before I was.
After a couple of years Chris Marsland's message board over at Coit Tower became the main hub of the Tex Murphy community becuase if it's sleeker interface and better moderated boards. That particular message board was part of the old EzBoard system. However towards the end of its life sometime in 2001-2002 EzBoards all over the world became the victims of web-attacks and were littered with advertising. This became of increasing concern for all members.
At this time the Unofficial Tex Murphy message board (which had always existed alongside Coit Tower) purchased a subscription to its EzBoard service (something Coit Tower never did) which enabled James to have greater control over the spam and advertising that would have otherwise consumed the pages. As a result everyone then migrated to the Unofficial Tex Murphy message board. Shortly afterwards Coit Tower's message board was reduced to web-dust.
Between 2003-2006 the Unofficial Tex Murphy message board (using the EzBoard system) became the only lasting Tex Murphy community in existence. TexMurphy.com was shut down, Coit Tower also bit the dust, and it was the end of an era with the Geocities days winding down to a close and Tex Murphy communities of old falling by the wayside one by one. This included the Tex Murphy MSN community.
So, relegated to one remaining hub in the World Wide Web we all became a closer community, and realising this James began the steps to upgrade this Unofficial Tex Murphy to the site it is today, using the much more stable and customisable PHPBB system. And of course as some of you remember Geocities shut down for good a few months ago, ensuring that almost every other Tex Murphy community/web-site (including my own) was sent into the history books.
But here we are now, many years on and closer than ever, and funnily enough I am a better and more educated person thanks to the people here and the things I have learned from each of you! This is a true gem of cyberspace, where we have seen people come and go, and even grow! I was 12 when I first started posting... now I am 25! Just goes to show, there must be something about this place and its people for me to have spent well over over half of my life participating in conversations, debates and occasional arguments with your crazies!
And speaking of contact lists Baf, yes, that is something we have been meaning to do. And it was agreed that a few of us would have some contact details for the members here (just a phone number, and a couple of email addressed would do), so that they are always within reach should the worst be assumed.
Anyway, it's great to look back on all the highlights of this community, not only becuase of the people and the passion, but the fact that I don't think any other online community comes to close.
Happy Easter everybody!!

Gee whiz, Cub, you brought a tear to my eye with all your VERY accurate nostalgia regarding this community. Nice job!
As for the contact list, yes, I agree, it would be quite advantageous. I, for one, would gladly make up and keep track of all and sundry if it pleases anyone. However, you younger ones might be more qualified what with your expertise with computers. Too, it should not remain in the hands of just one person but at least 3 as mentioned. Why? Obviously something could happen at any time. I hate to bring this up, but I am overly concerned with the seeming disappearance of the Doc. It's been months since his last post.

Not had a post by him since early november of last year. That's closing in on 5 months now.
Does anyone have a way of tracking him down? A doctor in physics named Paul can't be too hard to trace down. Anybody got a last name for him? Or know where he works?

Last I talked to DrPaul he had become busy with getting his 3D Search Engine off the ground and had begun Teaching which he said was consuming his time...
But still 5 months does seem like quite the stretch for him to be out of touch...
My only thought is to find one of his Threads relating to his 3D Search/Filing program and follow the link to see if it is still in operation and to try and email him through any contact options through that website...
If no one has done it by the time I come back later tonight, I will try to search his posts and find the thread I'm talking about... But right now I have some other things that need my attention...
It would be nice to hear from Mr. Malloy and Stu as well...
Edited * Whew, I'm glad I checked his Profile first, saved myself a heap of time going through all his posts... His website is listed in his Profile... I was able to find an Email through there and I sent him a short little email...
Provided all is well {god willing}, he should either pop in and post us a little something {per my request in the email} or at the very least email me back...
So lets give him a little time and see what happens...

Me too, but I haven't received a reply yet and he hasn't posted to the board...
Hopefully it is just because of it being a Holiday weekend and he has been busy with Family...
We'll wait out the week and see what happens...
Does anyone know his last name??? Being a Doctor it should be relatively easy to look him up... He is up there in Detroit with you, isn't he Jim???
I could surely be wrong, but I'm guessing that his last name is Drallos... Because his email address is [email protected] and I'm thinking that the P at the beginning is for Paul and the rest of it is his last name...
Being somewhat local, Jim see if you can find anything on Dr. Paul Drallos... According to his Profile here, he is a Physicist...
I look for what I can online, but your local phone book or other materials might be able to locate him easier...
