Don't you mean "I couldn't do it, captain!"

Judging by some of the skimpy costumes worn by fans that are not the appropriate size, I feel the more fitting quote would have to be, "she's gonna blow, Captain!"
Haha. You guys are funny.

I think my favorite quote from Scotty was "I canna change the laws of physics."

Well, whatever everyone else says I am still happy to know there is at least ONE STOS fan out there. BTW, James Doohan co-wrote a couple of sci-fi books a while back. I believe there were 3 in the series and they were not too bad, either. Lots of engineering stuff and some good ole Star Trek kick butt action. You could probably pick them up on Ebay or Amazon fairly cheap.

Yeah I think Jim forgot that most of us are Star Trek fans.

It would seem so wouldn't it... Especially considering we just had the Kirk and Bones exchange in that other Thread...

It's okay Jim. You are forgiven.

I'm a fan of most things Trek. TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager is iffy, and Enterprise was just a disappointment to me. It seems like a case of diminishing returns with each successive incarnation.

But the last movie was a surprisingly great comeback. So maybe the future is looking bright again.

First off, I disagree with the recent movie... While it was a good Flick Action wise and the Special Effects were off the hook, It was NOT Star Trek to me...

As for the shows, the Original of course and Generation was good, and I really liked Voyager, it was Deep Space 9 that I just couldn't get into...

Well, Sam, I'm with you on the new Star Trek movie. Sorry, Baf. I really thought the movie story was terrific, the acting fabulous, and the future possibilities endless. Those actors gelled marvelously and I liked some of the new directions the writing took. And, like most of its predecessors, there was enough levity to make it more appealing than I thought possible.

To be honest the new movie didn't have to do much to be a vast improvement on Star Trek: Nemesis. I honestly thought about walking out on that movie.

I went into the recent Star Trek movie determined to hate it. To my surprise I actually enjoyed it. Mind you, they got lots of technical things wrong that really ticked me off. Not a perfect movie but thoroughly acceptable.

No need to apologize... Everyone has their opinions...

I thought that the new Star Trek was a good movie and all, but the fact that they are trying to reinvent the original cast, no I don't like it... Each of those characters were molded and made by the original people who played them and I don't think that any of the the new people came close to portraying the original cast... Spock was the closest and even with Nimoy there to coach him, I don't feel he did all that good of a job...

Now the story was just fine as well, if they had used different names, instead of the original characters, then we wouldn't be having this conversation because it would have been just fine...

I thought the latest film was the Casino Royale of Star Trek. It really opened up new possibilities and renewed the feel of the whole thing while being very faithful to the intention of the original text. As for the alternate timeline - bring it on! The worst thing they can do is attempt to reverse it, i'd hate to see that as it would be the ultimate cop out of such a brilliantly conceived vision of Star Trek. I think this might be the decade that Trek returns to prime time.
Ditto from TOG Joel.

Baf,
I understand where you are coming from. That's exactly how I felt when they re-did Battlestar Galactica. The new characters bore no resemblance to the old characters yet they were still using their old names. That was a total travesty and fracking ridiculous. It made me feel like dying and rolling over in my grave at the same time. Also have serious doubts about the new A-Team movie.

Agreed that the recast could never match the magic of the original cast. I could never love these new folks like the old. The only thing that got me on board was the new story obeyed the rules of Star Trek. You alter the time line, you alter things, places, and even people. So I can accept that these folks are not the ones we grew up with in TOS but alternate versions. So not quite "Mirror, Mirror" versions but different versions all the same.
