Just finished books 3 and 4 and I must say I feel like kid again! These installments are thrilling, well written, and appeal to just about every emotion under the sun. The target audience may have been young adults but I find them extremely enjoyable and quite refreshing.

Oh, BTW, do read them in chronological order if at all possible. It makes for better reading.

All I have to ask is what's wrong with book 1? Book 2 is being turned into a movie, and book 1 is being left behind. I haven't read any of the books, myself, and only recently discovered such information.

Well, if I HAD to venture an opinion it would be like so: Book I is a lot of pre-Narnia stuff, background on the children who first traipsed the light fantastic by crossing into magical lands via mysterious rings. It may be similar to parts of the LOTR trilogy that Peter Jackson left out for obvious reasons - the movies were quite long as is, information not necessary to the story line, etc.

Also, they may decide to summarize the first book in some way a la the beginning of Dune or even the beginning of LOTR. Either way I eagerly look forward to the movie(s?) especially if they have live acting and not animation.

Does anyone have any info regarding lead roles?

Also, I think people are more familiar with "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" than with the other books. At least I know that at one point in school some classes were assigned that book as reading. Of course, the movies could be being made in the publication order of the books, which would put "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" first.
I haven't read them in years but remember stopping halfway through book 7 - Jtog you'll have to tell me the ending!! I won't tell the story here as it will give things away, but is the film out in the states yet? Any good? Are they making any of the other books or just the lion witch wardrobe?
Well, more than one book has a sticker on it saying "A Major Motion Picture" and then it says "Holiday 2005."

So then, what book or books will be featured is anyone's guess, but it appears to be scheduled for this Christmas.

A good amount of information on the movie can be found at the Disney site: disney.go.com/disneypictures/narnia

The site gives December 9, 2005 as the release date.

I certainly hope they make all the books into movies; I can't wait for December!
The trailer was cool and it looks like it might be a blockbuster movie.

After viewing it I came to two conclusions:
1. Since the movie starts with the 2nd book I can only surmise the producers have figured out a way as to how Narnia came into being. Perhaps they will have Aslan tell it in flashback form.

2. The trailer mentioned the beginning of the chronicles. That may mean sequels, perhaps 2, 3 or 4 of them, a la Harry Potter. Now THAT would be really cool.

Anyone have further thoughts on this?

As it seems to be hip in Hollywood to base movies off of previously written materials, and make lots of sequels:

National Treasure 2
Elf 2
Saw 2
I Know What You Did Last Summer 3
Ring 3
Road House 2 (Yes, it's true! And with Swayze's career, he might even star in it)

this means that occasionaly they'll latch onto something cool and make a dozen movies off of it.
