Glad someone mentioned LOTR movies AND books. The movies were incredible; the books were beyond belief. Probably the best fiction I've ever read (6 times in the last 4 years).

I had to mention it... Couldn't believe it hadn't been mentioned in 2 pages of Thread... Couldn't believe that I didn't think of it sooner either...

I really wish they had figured out a way to have put Tom Bombaldi in the movie... I think I got that spelled right, I didn't break out the book to check... If you've read it that much though, you'll know who I'm talking about...
I really liked the 2 chapters that spoke of Bombaldi and I liked how the Ring had no affect on him and that when Frodo tried to put it on and slip away he could see him... Then he helped them out on the Barrow Downs before they got to Bree... They Skipped everything from Bag End to Bree just about... Skipped Chickhollow {I think that's the name of where Frodo was moving}... Skipped the whole Farmer Maggot scene, because in the book, Farmer Maggot took them in the house and they all had Dinner together and Maggot gave Frodo Mushrooms for the Journey and then Maggot headed off the Riders on the trail giving the Hobbits more time to make it to the Ferry...
Then they jumped to Bree... Skipped a lot of Stuff with the Bartender as well...
But like I said, I know you lose stuff when going from Book to Film... Just always seems to end up that they lose the Stuff I seem to like... lol

Finally saw it over the weekend and all I can say is WOW!! That movies is a masterpiece and you are right, Kevin Costner was definitely born to play that role. I watched the extras on the dvd and I kinda got the feeling that they are going to make a sequel to it...I think it leaves itself wide open for a continuation of the story..so I will looking for that...however, I disagree with you on Kevin Costner's acting. I think he's a great actor...I think the roles that he has taken, they were roles that he made his own and put his own personality into. I like his work a lot. But, different strokes for different folks.

I haven't read the book in years and you are gonna yell at me over a slight mix up in the last couple of letters... Geeesh, tough crowd...

Yes I wish they would have worked him into the movie...

No yelling allowed, but a bit of levity is most welcomed. BTW, there were other charachters in the books I enjoyed. Erkenbrand of the Rohhirim, Ghan-Buri-Ghan of the "People of the Wood", Gwahir the Wind Lord, and a few more. I may have to re-read the books soon. AC stated he reads them once a year. Good idea.

I have books I read and reread once a year. Minimum. However that would be Stephen R. Donaldson's Gap Series.

Excellent books, top-notch story, well-developed characters, and a plot that burns other plots out of the sky. Easy. Also, it's a space opera, which is a major selling point to me. Wagnerian, they call it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Eagles...

There was also that scene/part in the book where Aragorn had words with a Dark Clothed figure at the Black Gate, they completely cut that out as well...

I was up north last week and got behind in my movie-going. Now I'm back and back at the movies again.

Yesterday, I saw Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns" and this afternoon, I saw "21".

Meet the Browns was typical Tyler Perry fare. A spiritual blend of humor and drama, usually centered around a strong female character that is suddenly dropped into a situation of overwhelming adversity. She eventually triumphs by steadfastly adhering to her faith and doing the right thing (which is usually the hard thing.)

21 was based on a true account of a team of MIT students that go to Las Vegas with a scheme to win at Black Jack. Features Kevin Spacey. Not a great story, but presented an interesting and unique depiction of Vegas and insights into the world of card-counting.

Some of you might recall that they made a two-part straight-to-tv movie of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather (from your lads at the BBC)

Well, the boys've done it again, with Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. I just saw it yesterday and it was great fun. Very Pratchetty!

Looking forward to the next one - Terry Pratchett's Going Postal. Which is a double pun right there.

Yesterday the wife and I watched our own DVD version of Pirates 3 and it was great! Personally, I think it the best of the triology.

Spoiler coming:

Be here soon!

Anyday now!

Where is it?

Ah, here it is:

Something to keep an eye out for: after the credits we waited to see if they added anything else and sure enough they did. On a beautiful wind swept island stood Eliz. Swann and a boy of about 9. Across the screen it said "10 years later". They were looking out over the ocean at sundown when suddenly a green flash appeared along with the Dutchman with Will Turner eagerly awaiting he 10 year visit. Nice moment.

I sometimes think of those little Easter Eggs at the end of the credits to be a sort of reward for the few viewers who stay 'till the bitter end.

Watching all of the credits is standard operating procedure for me and I'm usually the last one out of the theater.

But the after-credits Easter Egg that takes the cake, IMHO, was from Napoleon Dynamite. There, the credits finished rolling and the screen went dark. The screen remained dark dark long enough so that, even people who stayed through all of the credits had time to leave the theater and miss the final scene - which was, I might add, rather spectacular.

What about the Easter Egg at the end of Masters of the Universe? The one with Dolph Lundren...I thought that one was pretty good too.

Speaking of Masters of the Universe, isn't there a new He-Man film set to come out at some point in the near future?
