I got a bunch of DVDs for Christmas. Haven't watched them all yet, but saw them at the theater when they were new. The ones I got are:

Memento (Cult classic. The story goes backwards in time.)
Army of Darkness (Best of the Evil Dead series IMHO)
World's Fastest Indian (Who'd guess the world's fastest indian is a Kiwi?)
Number 23 (A Jim Carrey thriller? Who would'a thought?)

And get this: One of my friends bought me a 50 inch HD plasma TV. Is that a good friend or what?

At some of these prices, I thought about getting a couple people TVs like that, my brother, my parents, possibly an in-law... The Circuit City here is closing up and they have some deals that just can't be passed up by people without major money woes... My father has replaced his Oven, Fridge, Dishwasher, Freezer, and is suppose to go looking for Washers and Dryers over the next week...

It's a buyers market out there, especially where commission is concerned...

Anyway lets get back to the Movie Topic... This movie was much better than I expected it to be... Carrey was great in this movie... Finding out who the killer was, was a big twist I didn't expect either when I first saw it... I don't want to say anything for those who haven't seen it...


I'm suppose to be going to see Marley and Me within the next few days... Previews look hilarious...

Just saw Bedtime Stories. A fun, and likable no-brainer that was entertaining to watch. I much prefer Adam Sandler in kids movies... and of course there were the typical cameo appearances from Rob Schneider and his crew.

There are so many films out I want to see: the Curious case of Benjamin Button and Seven Pounds to name a couple.

I attempted to see Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino a few days ago, but it was sold out. This is partly because Gran Torino was shot in Detroit, and Detroit was the only place in the universe that was showing it, at that time. Anyway, since it was sold out, we went to see Bedtime Stories.

I was surprised at how good Bedtime Stories was. I wasn't expecting to like it and I expected a lot of very crude humor coming from Adam Sandler. But I agree with Cub. He is best in kid's movies because he is, otherwise, much too crude and tasteless.

Today, I got around to seeing Gran Torino. Wow! This was a very fantastic movie. Well worth seeing if you get a chance.

I was really looking forward to The Spirit, but I am sorry to say that I was pretty disappointed. I was expecting something more like Sin City. The 'look' was there, but the dialog was way too comic book. I guess they wanted to give it a comic book feel, but they went way too far with the comic book style dialog and it just came out hokey.

Speaking of disappointments. What a disappointment The Day the Earth Stood Still was. The special effects were great, but they totally ruined the story. It was painful to sit through.

I haven't seen Marley yet. Am looking forward to it.

I watched Men Of Honor tonight, I've seen it many times... Still A Great Movie...

Went for a custom-made double feature last night, Valkyrie and The Spirit. I expected the first one to be so-so and the latter to be pretty good, which is why I saw them in that order.

Turns out that Valkyrie was much better than I expected despite its flaws, and quite enjoyable all in all, while The Spirit was an utter disappointment.

If you look at Valkyrie like a conspiracy movie set in WW2 instead of an actual historical movie you're all set for some good entertainment. The setting is perfectly recreated mind you, and the WW2 feel is there. The actual bomb scene is rather pointless, knowing the attempt ultimately failed, but the real fun came when they tried to take over Berlin. It's amazing to think how close the subterfuge came to working, and what tricks they pulled to do it. As for Tom Cruise and the various accents, I really stopped caring once I got immersed in the story. In my opinion, considering what they wanted out of the movie, having a bunch of Americans and Brits attempting German accents would've turned ridiculous. I didn't take Cruise seriously in the role, probably because he doesn't attempt to play the turn cloak aristocrat or build the character in any way and just plays the action hero, but again, for a conspiracy thriller it worked just fine. I'll leave it to the very capable German actors and film makers to actually shoot a fair reconstitution.

The Spirit is a whole other story. I'm a guy who judges movies by the trailers alone, and systematically refuse to read reviews beforehand, and I've only ever been fooled once, before last night. The movie simply doesn't deliver, period. If it was meant as a satire, it failed. If it was meant to be a 40s-50s comic, it failed. If it was meant to be an action movie, which I doubt, it failed even more. The only part that works well is the overstylised visuals. The rest of the satire/comic feel goes way over its own head. Miller, with all due respect, doesn't know how to bring the essence of a comic book onto the screen, no matter what the defenders have to say about this movie. Rodrigues is the one who did it with Sin City, now we know for sure. The perfect example of a meticulously crafted campy, wooden, cheesy and yet delightful comic book movie would be Dick Tracy. In comparison, Spirit is a film-student movie; Overly done, full of itself and without any sense of flair or actual comprehension of the medium.

Very much looking forward to Gran Torino, but it won't be playing here till January.

I agree. This was the 1st time in a long while that I felt that the extended length was sastifying. Austraila and The Changling both were about 45 minutes too long IMHO.

I went and saw Jeff Dunham tonight, he is Hilarious, just Hilarious... I'm not sure who I like better, Peanut or Walter... I guess it depends on the routine he is doing...

Anyone else seen any of his stuff, Live or DVD or on TV???

The story of a woman joining the French resistance during World War 2 and turning out to be incredibly ineffective at doing anything. On one hand the point of the movie is probably showing the uncertainty of war, but then on the other hand she really couldn't get much done. Cate Blanchett is still hot, though.

Saw Seven Pounds... underwhelming.
Saw Bolt... very entertaining, a favorite for the animated flicks.
Got Wall-E on BluRay... love it!

I just watched "My Best Friend's Girl"... Dane Cook is Hilarious and so is the rest of the movie, I thought it was great...

I went and saw "Eagle Eye" in the theater, but just watched it again on Netflix, quite the action movie...


I've seen previews for a movie called "Taken", looks like it's going to be good, probably gonna go see it in the theaters... I wanna see Underworld: Rise of the Lycans as well... Might just wait to buy that and put it with the other 2 in the series though...
