Moving to the USA!

Yea, I would have to say Detroit has one of the highest crime ratings in the U.S.

And the previous mayor didn't help at all either.
Kilpatrick killed that city, no pun intended.

I once was a passenger in a car that drove down Rosa Parks boulevard....... was a shortcut apparently.
Ouch. NOW that is a ghetto.
Matt
Actually, some portions of the Blvd. are quite nice. However, even the nicer upscale neighborhoods of Detroit are surrounded by the ghetto. In all fairness, the outlying areas where the upper crust reside is often hit by crime from within. Think about it. Some of the most horrendous crimes in history have been acted out by the so-called rich and famous. It seems that $$$ corrupt far more than the lack of such.

I would love to visit Detroit Jim, to be perfectly honest. If anything it would be just to see it for myself, and to meet the old guy!

Hey Cub, will you be aiming for Citizenship or just gonna spend however long your work visa is and then go back???

There are plenty of sites to see in this country that is for sure... Did you know that on average over 75% of the people in this country never leave their own state, be it for vacation or business or any other reason... I think that is kind of sad to have such limited horizons as to not even leave your own state at all...

For the time being Baf it may need to be a working (non-immigrant) visa as they are far easier to process, especially for companies. But I will of course be aiming for an immigrant visa if I can get it as it offers a few more benefits and a better chance of a green card later on should I really want to stay. I also found out that I have a great auntie who lives in LA... my father just let me know about that detail a few days ago, came way out of left field. So fingers crossed that can help things a little bit.

Bafitis, I know what you mean. I admit I've spent more time traveling to other countries than exploring the USA. I've worked in VA, CA, FL, and TX. I've driven through places in between but have not really done a lot of sightseeing around the country.

I hope to remedy that this spring. My husband and I are going to see Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore.

Cub, sounds like a plan... Do you have any contact info for that Aunt your old man talked about??? If she has a big enough place might be able to give you somewhere to crash when you first get here, then you could get a feeling for the different areas and see what fits you best...
And if nothing else, at least you'll have some family in the area...

Sam,
We did Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone {Devil's Tower, Old Faithful}, among many other sites in 1989... We took a road trip for almost 4 weeks one summer, my parents, my brother, the dog, and myself... I was 12 when we did that...
Drove all the way out going through the Northern states until we got to South Dakota and then from Wyoming we went to Colorado and then came back east through the states beneath the ones we went through on the way out there...

You have to make sure you stop by Crazy Horse Mountain as well... It's not finished, but is looking pretty good so far... It's suppose to be bigger than Mt. Rushmore... It's not too far away from Rushmore either, we stopped by, but they hadn't even started to Carve the face yet, but it just goes to show you how long it has been in progress, at least 21 years...

This is what it is suppose to look like when it finally gets finished...

Still can't believe Steven King wrote that.

I used to live in California in 80s. I thought it was fantastic but my cousin Rose live in LA, California. I haven't been to California since 1994.
I hope Arnie can get back to acting films after his Governor term is up soon.

Cubase, have fun whenever you get here. You might be lucky to meet Adrian Carr and rest of the gangs in California. I know Adrian would be please to see you in California. He could help you out when you arrive to Cali. Just send him a PM.
Not sure if you can practice this or not, but our Steering Wheel is on the Left side of the care and we drive on the Right side of the road... We have a few cars here that have the Steering Wheel on the right side of the car, but those are usually Sport Cars...

Going to be a bit backwards for you... That is if you plan on Driving... L.A., like in New York, a fair amount of people don't drive and frequent the Bus or Taxi...

I'm awefully late to this, but, big move Cub!

One step closer from reading your name on a big black screen.

I'm supposed to be in San Francisco, LA and San Diego the last of September and first of October. If you're there by then and we cross path, I'm buying the brew.
