Ok, this has been bugging me ever since I first played Pandora.

What is the deal with those Holodates? From what we briefly see of Rhet, and the few comments that Tex makes regarding how a Holodate with a simulated Jane Mansfield is reasonably satisfying, it suggests that these beings, whatever they are, have much more substance than simply being holographic projections.

They seem more like the inhabitants of the holodeck on StarTrek TNG. There, you could climb on and ride a holographic horse, or climb a holographic mountain. There was. apparently, some sort of computer generated, physical presnece. The holodates are obviously computer generated, but they seem to be projected matter instead of just projected images.

It's been a while since I've played those scenes. Am I remembering correctly?

When we get to that part of the game I always thought they were non-substanced, quirky and non-functional. In fact, I thought they were really out of place. I mean, how can a holo-image move around apart from the projector? Still, they added an extra dimension to the game's endings and a bit of humor as well.

Hey Jim,
I agree with you on all the things you say, but that's why I think there is something more to these holodates than meets the eye.

Sure, they are translucent, which gives them a ghostly, not quite physical appearance. But, as you say, how can a holo-image move around without a projector? Are they just images, or is there something more to them? How are they projected?

At the moment, the only two computers I have that I can run PD on are down, so I can't check. But I assume that you have saved games near the end of PD. Would it be difficult for you to look and listen carefully for this stuff?

For instance, I thought Chelsea and Rhet made physical contact, but I could certainly be mistaken. I think we could also hear the sound of Rhet's shoes and cane as he walked in the diner. He also seems able to see or sense the environment around him.

Also, doesn't Tex seem curiously content to settle for a date with a holographic Jane Mansfield? Doesn't he imply that there is more than just looking to be gained from these holodates?

I haven't seen these scenes in a long time and I may be way off. I don't know if anyone else has looked at these scenes with these types of questions in mind.

Unfortunately, my Win95 computer is down as well. I think its fixable and hopefully will be up and running soon. Then I will check on you question, Doc.
