I should be going to see Watchmen tonight. A friend saw it at the IMAX and said it was great... but I don't like seeing things first at the IMAX... usually go there for the second viewing, as you tend to miss things on a screen that big that you want to get first time. Looking forward to it, then I can read those spoilers above haha.

Okay I saw the Watchmen a couple of days ago. It was good... I would not call it great... it felt much longer than it actually was. Definitely entertaining though, and had some great, bash-em-up, and gory moments! I have not read the graphic novel, nor have any intention to... but as a movie on its own, nothing left questions marks over my head... the story was translated well from what my friends have told me, even if the ending was a little different (a lot of folks tend to prefer the movie ending though).

I haven't seen it yet, but I have read the graphic novel several times over the years.

As far as the ending goes... I liked the graphic novel ending, but i don't think it would have translated well to the big screen.

In the graphic novel, the whole explanation is quite long. In readable form, that's fine... but on the big screen, it would take away from the climax tremendously.

It would have slowed the pace of the movie to a crawl. Kind of like all the endings at the end of Return of the King. There were alot and it slowed down the movie at the end.
Me personally, I would have liked the Scouring Of the Shire at the end, cause that would have been a great ending but oh well...

Anyway back to Watchmen.... I also think that the monster at the end, although it would have been cool for fans, I think a mainstream audience would have found it cheesy. Especially if they had no prior conception of the book.

Keep in mind i have not seen the movie yet, but I am just offering my opinion from what I know of the graphic novel.

You guys should get the Motion comic. It is really impressive =)

I was sold after the intro. The movie could have ended there for all I cared. Dylan, mixed with heroes going wrong? More please, more!

That it did. Goes to show time is truly relative in our minds.

I read it as a kid, it was my older borther's, and remember little to none of the GN. I purposefully decided not to refresh my memory, and so enjoyed this movie for what it was. It's definitely not something we get every day, and I was grateful for it. As a movie, I don't know that it was great. It was odd, a capsule of some sort, with a universe of its own, and I liked that very much.

I don't think I'd watch it again. Well, except for the intro. I'd watch it now, a dozen times, if it were available somewhere.

PS: The soundtrack was a big win. Dylan, Cohen and Hendrix. How can you go wrong?

Edit: I just noticed. When we see a guy reading the newspaper about the Russians having the bomb, we see another dude walking out of a room with a prostitute hanging in the doorway, and he rubs the hair of a kid in the hallway as he passes by. Notice who it is?

The kid would be Rorschach, Frank, but the guy who comes walking out from the door and tussles his hair? I can't see his features clearly enough. Please inform me Who is it?

Oh I only meant Rorschach. I had not paid attention to that part when I first saw the intro, and so didn't realise they had inserted a hint of one of the main character's origin in it.

I like it when they do that. Put something early on that has no apparent meaning or purpose, and it's only on a second viewing you can appreciate it.

Although it's possible the client was someone as well. If it is, I don't remember who.

It was actually done twice in the intro, with the Silk Spectre II (when her parents were arguing).

Man! I really hate to end this fine discussion (several previous posts) but the little lady and I saw an interesting Mel Gibson movie the other day. It was called Tim and also starred Piper Laurie. It was not his typical action/adventure or a comedy/romance, but it was mesmerizing just the same. We found we just HAD to watch it even tho' I tried to walk away. Delightful, sad, merry, angry, etc. Kudos to the producers and all the actors.

FYI, it's slow moving but heart-warming as it takes you through the lives of a family with a mentally challenged son/sibling played exceptionally well by Gibson. If you need to "wind" down one evening, watch this movie.

So I finally saw Watchmen.

I was really impressed!!!! I think they did a really good job!!

Since I expected the ending to be different, I wasn't that disappointed by it.

I only had one complaint. And that is the scene where Laurie and Jon teleport to New York. I feel they should have shown more of the destruction. I was disappointed that there were no bodies to be found anywhere. In the book, they show bodies strewn everywhere.... and blood everywhere.

I realize now, after thinking about it for a bit, why they didn't have that. Probably had to do with the fact of the ending change, and the destruction being caused by an energy signature similar to Jon's powers, instead of a gigantic psychic octopus thingy.

Since Doc's tachion energy powers vaporizes people, that could explain it. I think the bodies everywhere though, would have truly show the horror of what was done.

Anyway, other than that, I think they it was well done.

I am especially anxious to see the 3 and half hr Super duper collector's version though on DVD. I heard that they were going to include Tales of the Black Freighter in that version!!

Now that would be cool!!!!!

I finally saw Twilight... It was a good movie, don't get me wrong, but I think there has been way too much hype leading up to it... All the hype they have been giving it, I was expecting a Stellar Movie... It's worth watching, like I said it's a good movie, just too many marketing people I guess trying to blow it up...

wow... you're significantly more civil than I was when I saw it... I thought it was probably one of the worst movies of the year. Then again, I was dragged along to see it by my now ex-girlfriend, who was totally obsessed with the series, and had read all four books 4 times over within the space of a month, and it drove me insane!

I just personally thought the film was a step backward on a technical level compared to so many films currently out there... and the whole romantic aspect felt very clumsy.

But you're also very right Baf when you say it was over-hyped. The actual books themselves suffer from the same kind of hype... and the biggest problem is, no matter how bad a film is, if it is based on a popular book you will have every Tom, Dick and Harry going to see the film. As was the case with Harry Potter.

It's not something I'll go out of my way to see again, if it happens to be on TV and I can't find anything else, I might flick it on...
I had no idea it was based off of a TV Show and a series of Books... I do know that they are already making a Sequel...

It was way overrated though, that's for sure... I'm glad I never got around to going to see it in the Theater... If I had paid for it, my review would have probably been a lot worse... lol
