Oh, actually the "second program" I linked was D3D Windower so I thought you meant that one

If you mean DX Wind, some discussion I found mentioned ticking "Mouse to Screen Fix" in the options. Should be on the right under "Cursor Handling". Maybe some other options under Cursor Handling will help too.

If you don't have it in your DXWind maybe its an older version. Earlier I couldn't find a page that collects DXWind info together but from looking on youtube it seems there is a project page on Sourceforge.

I ran the latest version (added today on Sourceforge) of the DXWind program and if I click once to select a added Game in DXWind's list and then go to Edit and Modify in the menu I see the options such as Cursor Handling. You can also change other things like the Direct X version, screen size, position etc.

Here's a direct link to download the latest version which was uploaded today:

I wish I could help more on the technical side, but I have no idea what you guys are talking about half the time. So...let's get some more posts in here for people willing to contribute to the Pentathlon! I'm doing $5/hour. You can take that approach and pay whatever you want per hour, or just do one lump sum, whichever is better for you. Let's make this worth Bjyman's time and have it be a huge success. Lord knows it's taken a lot of work just to get the thing to stream. :D

Thanks Sai. This could be what I need as I didn't have the latest version. Any recommendations on what I should do with cursor handling? I'm going to try Mouse to Screen fix, but let me know if there's any others.

Edit: Ok I tried that and unlike the previous version it wont force it to a reduced window so I'm back to that. Do I need to fill out the Hooked Module field on Modify?

I saw a lot of mention on the web of making sure Mouse to Screen Fix is ticked.
Someone also suggested "Correct mouse position" for certain issues.
"Force cursor clipping" seems to be suggested sometimes too.

The DXWnd download also comes with a manual which describes some of the options:
Cursor handling settings (short description):

Hide cursor - Forces hiding the hardware cursor
Correct mouse position - Compensate for X,Y mouse coordinates when the window is moved or resized
Mouse to screen fix - Some games require a further compensation to take in account for the form title bar
Force cursor clipping - Set hardware cursor clipping within the window's region. It greately improves the game playability in some cases (namely, the Dungeon Keeper series)
Keep cursor within window - Avoid moving the cursor outside the window area. Doing so was used as “Cursor OFF” directive in some games.
Intercept GDI cursor clipping - experimental

Does anyone know what version of DirectX Overseer on Gog uses? The program only adds direct support up to DirectX 9. Perhaps that is why I can't get a reduced window on the latest version.

From GOG's Overseer page:
Minimum system requirements: Windows XP or Windows Vista, 1 GHz Processor (1.4 GHz recommended), 256MB RAM (512 recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 8.1 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), Mouse, Keyboard. Patched to version 1.04
On the older DXWnd version the thread they made for that version says:
If it doesn't quite give the results you expect with a game (such as odd cursor behavior), you may have some luck by customizing the standard patch configuration for the program.
I think they mean the "Standard.dxw" file in the DXWnd folder but not sure.

Another option is to try an inbetween version thatd work and still have the extra options? Yours is Version 1.034 and the latest was Version 2.01.49.

Older versions:

Version 2.01.18 is a no go. So it doesn't look like the version idea will work.

Ok it turns out I was wrong about how to use the configuration button on the older version.

For those who want to know what works use DXWnd Version 1.034.

1. Go to GenericWindowPatcher and then click the Configure Button.
2. Find where the Overseer.exe is located then click Open.
3. Set the configuration to the following

Check Slow to Framerate
In the Desired Framerate box put 1000
Make Window Size 640 X 480
Check Patch All Modules
Check all 4 Input Device Options then run the game.

I haven't filtered through all the optionals with the exception of knowing I need resolution and framerate so if anyone can find some better configuration options than the one I have please let me know.

you are asking for nothing but trouble to use the overseer dvd on a 64 bit system. I have read however that you can copy the dvd disk to the hard drive & play that way but I for one have had no success with that one. if you are to continue with the dvd disk on your xp system when you head to clark's lab before going up the stairs to cross the chasm (this is where you pick up the strips to combine the ladder, change decoder to software your video goes a bit weird & you will not be able to use the movement control just the arror keys. Then save the game & restart & change back to hardware decoder, now you can cross the chasm. This crash will happen many times crossing the chasm so best to avoid the hardware decoder in this part of the game.

hope this helps

They're using the GOG version of Overseer (the CD version rather than DVD).
The issues are more with the fact any version of Overseer apparently doesn't like to be put into a window (as in the entire game). And running full screen can lead to performance issues when broadcasting live.

@Bjyman: I think I saw on the backer comments that you managed to sort it out? Hope its all going well.

That might be sbenrap.

Bjyman is Blair on the Backer comments:

@sbenrap Thanks. The one I got to work was the CD version and I'm aiming for a June 8th start date so there's plenty of time if you want to coordinate something.

Hi all. Things are going good. I upgraded my router and am working on the audio volume now. In my audio workaround I have to use headphones to hear the games I'm playing and that lowers volume. So can you view this presentation. http://www.twitch.tv/bjyman/b/319349379 and tell me if the audio is loud enough?

Everything is maxed out on the config except for midi and I've made the decision to go up on that a little.

Looking good. Audio seems to be mostly focused on one side when listening on headphones (semi-Mono), dunno if thats just me, the way the game is or something that can be tweaked easily. However everything was still very clear. Gonna do a test with mic audio?
