I predicted this a few years ago:

This happened just after midnight, early saturday morning just a few hours south of where I live.
A masked robber storms into a gas station, waving a gun around, walks up to the counter, demands cash. He waves the customers to one side of the station. The other customers back a little bit off. Then one woman demands to get her burger. She gets it. She walks back to the other customers. The robber is a bit confused by this, but keeps himself calm. Then she returns for ketchup. Gets a pack. Fixes her burger. A man gets a cup of coffee.
All the while, there's an ARMED, GODDAMN ROBBERY IN PROGRESS, NOT FIVE FEET AWAY!!
I said the following to a friend of mine about 4-5 years ago:
"Y'know, some day, some guy is going to walk into a store and rob the place, and the people will just be treating him like he cut in line or something. They'll let him, because of the gun, but beyond that? They'll just continue waiting their turn."
The robber in this case was caught by police shortly thereafter.

PS: I've got a t-shirt that says, and I quote: "Losing Faith in Humanity. One Person at a Time." Typing this, I realized I'm wearing it at the moment. How apt.
