Some mistakes in the novels

This thread is for those who have read the novels. There are a couple of details I'd like to discuss. In the UAKM novel, after Tex visits the Countess Renier's empty mansion and realises it was a setup, Tex reaches a phone terminal and leaves a message to Mac Malden that he should check it out. Some...

Re: Usage of names in TM, and perhaps their meaning?

Just remembered a new one: Collier Stanton's name is another example of a strange usage of a surname as a name.

Re: Usage of names in TM, and perhaps their meaning?

Hammerhead wrote: The Colonel's full name was Roy O'Brien Dobbs.
Is this some logical deduction or is it mentioned somewhere officially?

Usage of names in TM, and perhaps their meaning?

I noticed something curious back when I was playing MM. Marshall Alexander is somehow a strange name. Marshall is a given name, but usually is a surname. Alexander is also a surname, but primarily is a given name. Between "Marshall Alexander" and "Alexander Marshall", it seems li...

Re: A question on canonicity

I was looking over the Wiki a bit and it has 2005 as Tex's year of birth. It actually is '04. :D Well most of the articles were written by myself so it's humanly impossible to be 100% error-free. Wikis aren't and shouldn't be a personal work, so contributions, corrections and suggestions by more sa...

Re: A question on canonicity

That's the general idea I had, James. Thanks for the input.

So, the encyclopedic articles will have the game summary as a primary section, and the novel information as an appendix.

A question on canonicity

Hi again, it has been a long time :) To remind you, I am one of the guys who maintain the Tex Murphy wiki at wikia.com. I am still going through reading the UAKM novelization and I am a bit frustrated on how things are different from the game. Of course this is good, because it is a novel, not a fai...

Re: Obscure text in Tex Murphy games

The booklet found in Roswell base, the one regarding emergency... the inventory screen shows only a single paragraph which occupies the right page. The left page is a "lorem ipsum".

Re: When did the WWIII happen?

FYI... the Moon Child was destroyed on December 31st 2042, if you want to update that bit. How do we know this? I noticed that in UAKM there were absolutely no dates, other than it begins around or after 6 December, and that the Moon Child is destroyed on "Thursday" which is 6 days after ...

Re: The Little Details

In the intro of Pandora Directive, among the things the Black Arrow is throwing from a closet, there is a box of Under a Killing Moon

There is also a little picture of UAKM on the cover of a PC magazine in Autotech

Re: Did Tex cheat Sylvia with Rhonda?

I dont think that Tex is divorced in MM. The flashback scene with Sylvia and Rudy happens in Tex's apartment in the Ritz, with the armchairs and all. These elements are not shown in MM. I dont remember if MM mentions anything about Ritz but I don't think so. I believe that in MM Tex lives "some...

Did Tex cheat Sylvia with Rhonda?

Here is another thing that bothers me! The ending of MS shows Tex and Sylvia speeding away into the sunset, suggesting a promising future. In the time shortly before UAKM they divorce. In the meantime, they must had had an affair and marry. Where Martian Memorandum fits in all this? Normally Tex wou...

Re: When did the WWIII happen?

If you check the source, the date 2009 derives from Tex's remark to Rhonda in MM that he is about 30. But it also says that Tex possibly rounds it down. The UAKM novelization fixes it down to 2004 or 5; however since the novels diverge from the games, there is a different timeline for them Thanks fo...

When did the WWIII happen?

What troubles me about Tex Murphy is that we dont get to know much about WWIII including when it happened. The timeline of Tex' life in this site says that it was in 1998, however after finishing MS, MM, UAKM and halfway the novelization, I did not find any such reference. However in MM there are se...

Re: First time playing UAKM...

I really do feel like these games were ahead of their time in a lot of ways, even if the rest of the adventure genre didn't go in that direction, and that's why they hold up even better than most modern adventure games. In my opinion FMV industry did not have the time to mature, as video games aban...
